Role Overview
ID.me is hiring a Chief of Staff of Product to serve as a senior strategic and organizational partner to the VP of Product. The role strengthens the operating effectiveness of the Product organization by connecting company strategy, portfolio priorities, cross-functional execution, leadership operating cadence, launch governance, and executive decision-making. The role holds a standing seat in Product leadership and execution review forums. The Chief of Staff owns the leadership mechanisms that connect those inputs into a coherent portfolio view, surface risks and tradeoffs early, and drive clear decisions and consistent execution across Product, Engineering, Design, Product Operations, Operations, and Go-to-Market teams.
Role Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Roadmap Alignment
- Partner with the VP of Product and Product leaders to drive annual and quarterly Product planning, translating company strategy into clear priorities, goals, planning assumptions, and measurable outcomes; surface portfolio-level tradeoffs, misalignment, and decisions requiring executive input.
- Roll up team roadmaps into one comparable view at a consistent level of detail, track committed dates, and surface material changes, dependencies, risks, and gaps against company priorities.
- Own intake for requests to the Product Organization, route each request to the accountable Product leader, ensure a decision or response is reached, and keep the open backlog and disposition visible to leadership.
Operating Cadence & Executive Communications
- Run the Product leadership meeting cadence and execution review rhythm: set agendas, shape pre-reads, track Product goals, KPIs, commitments, and portfolio health, capture decisions and owners, and drive follow-through on material gaps.
- Own executive communications for the Product organization, including the consolidated roadmap, weekly status reporting, leadership updates, and Product input into executive and board-level reviews, ensuring one consistent narrative and a trusted set of metrics sourced the same way each time.
- Prepare the VP of Product for key decisions and forums by synthesizing context, options, tradeoffs, risks, and recommendations into decision-ready materials.
Cross-Functional Execution & Launch Excellence
- Drive execution of high-priority initiatives that cross multiple teams or lack a natural single owner by clarifying ownership, sequencing dependencies, resolving operational breakdowns, and escalating only when an executive decision is required.
- Establish and strengthen launch governance in partnership with Product Operations, Engineering, Design, Operations, Support, and Go-to-Market teams, covering readiness, day-one instrumentation, operational and support handoff, communications, decision rights, and closure of launch-critical gaps.
- Continuously improve the Product operating model by simplifying workflows, automating recurring work, improving tooling and visibility, and removing process friction that slows decision-making or execution.
Organizational Effectiveness
- Act as a force multiplier and proxy for the VP of Product: absorb work that does not require direct attention, represent priorities credibly, and ensure matters that do reach the VP arrive with a clear decision to make.
- Serve as a candid advisor to the VP of Product, surfacing organizational risks and blind spots and identifying where leadership practices, roles, processes, decision rights, or team boundaries are limiting organizational effectiveness. Partner with Finance and People on organizational planning, headcount priorities, and operating-model changes so resource decisions align with Product priorities and business needs.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience in program management, business/product operations, product management, or a chief-of-staff function, including experience operating at a senior or executive-supporting level.
- Demonstrated success bringing structure to ambiguity, aligning senior stakeholders, and improving execution inside a complex, cross-functional product organization.
- Experience partnering directly with senior executives (VP-level or above) to prepare decisions, run leadership cadences, shape executive reporting, and drive cross-functional alignment and follow-through.
- Ability to synthesize multiple, inconsistent team plans, roadmaps, metrics, and inputs into a clear leadership-ready view that highlights tradeoffs, dependencies, risks, and decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to drive complex cross-functional initiatives through influence, sound judgment, and clear accountability without relying on formal supervisory authority.
- Experience designing, scaling, and improving repeatable operating mechanisms such as planning, roadmap reviews, launch readiness, intake, or business reviews, and driving adoption across multiple teams.
- Strong written and verbal executive communication skills, with the ability to distill ambiguity, represent a senior leader's priorities credibly, and tailor communication for Product teams, peers, executives, and board-level audiences.
- Strong judgment in distinguishing issues that can be resolved directly from those that require executive escalation, and the ability to surface risks early with practical options for resolution.
Preferred Qualifications
The qualifications below are ideal, but not all are required. We encourage candidates to apply if they satisfy some, but not all, of these qualifications.
- Background in product management, engineering program management, or product/business operations.
- Experience standing up or scaling a metrics-driven operating review cadence, such as monthly business reviews, quarterly business reviews, or portfolio-level product reviews.
- Experience working with developer-facing products, platforms, or complex technology ecosystems.
- Experience operating in a high-growth technology environment and supporting a scaled Product organization or senior Product leader.
What Success Looks Like
- Material roadmap drift, dependencies, and cross-team collisions are surfaced early enough for leaders to act before committed milestones are affected.
- Product launches consistently move through the defined readiness and governance process, with material gaps documented, owned, and resolved or explicitly accepted.
- Issues brought to the VP of Product are appropriately escalated with context, options, tradeoffs, and a clear decision required.
- Product leadership operates with a consistent view of priorities, goals, KPIs, commitments, risks, dependencies, and decisions across the portfolio.
