Role Overview
ID.me is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack to join the Commerce & Loyalty team, which owns the ID.me Shop experience — cashback, affiliate offers, merchant discounts, and loyalty programs — along with the marketing and campaign surfaces that drive member engagement and commerce revenue. This position will work from our Mountain View, CA office five days per week.
This role is full stack: you will spend significant time on the React/Next.js web experience across Shop and SuperApp, while also building and extending the backend services and APIs that power these features. You will be the technical anchor for the team's frontend surfaces, driving architecture decisions, raising the engineering bar, and partnering closely with Design and Product to translate commerce, personalization, and loyalty concepts into working member experiences.
This is a product-focused role: your primary charter is deepening and scaling the Shop product experience itself, rather than owning shared platform or design-system infrastructure. Where patterns built for Shop are broadly useful, you may contribute reusable components back to ID.me's shared UI Foundations on an as-needed basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and Maintain Shop Web Experiences: Own and evolve the Shop front-end surfaces using React, Next.js, and TypeScript, including personalized offer discovery, cashback/loyalty flows, and merchant/store pages.
- Build and Extend Backend Services: Build and extend backend REST endpoints and services to support new or modified frontend features, taking full ownership from UI through backend rather than handing work to another team.
- Integrate with Platform APIs: Integrate with Shopping Graph and Developer Portal APIs for merchant data, offer eligibility, and personalization signals rather than hardcoding business logic client-side.
- Support Infrastructure Modernization: Participate in ongoing platform work such as the GKE migration for Shop and adoption of shared UI patterns across the Shop codebase.
- Contribute to UI Foundations as Needed: When a component or pattern built for Shop has broader applicability, contribute it back to ID.me's shared design system so other product teams can adopt it — without this becoming a primary focus of the role.
- Partner Closely with Design and Product: Work hand-in-hand with Design and Product to turn discovery, personalization, loyalty, and campaign/marketing concepts into feasible, member-centered web UI.
- Set Engineering Standards: Define patterns for testing, code quality, and review processes for the team's codebase; mentor other engineers on the team.
- Performance, Accessibility & Reliability: Ensure shipped features meet ID.me's standards for performance, accessibility, and cross-browser reliability; provide production support, including triaging and resolving incidents and bugs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong frontend engineering experience (typically 5+ years)
- Deep expertise in vanilla JavaScript, HTML, and the DOM
- Hands-on experience shipping native Web Components in production (Custom Elements, templates, Shadow DOM, slots, events)
- Solid production experience with React (and Next.js) — required for adoption, not only for wrappers
- Experience with UI component libraries or design systems
- Familiarity with design tokens, theming, and scalable CSS (custom properties, shared stylesheets)
- Proven collaboration with design on system-level UI
- Strong grasp of accessibility standards and browser behavior
- Working proficiency in a backend language for building and maintaining REST services
- Full stack ownership experience, from frontend UI through backend services and APIs
- AI-native engineering practices — comfortable using AI tooling (e.g., code generation, test coverage, documentation) to accelerate development
We'd Love to See
- Experience with ID.me's commerce/marketplace stack and shared internal design systems
- Experience with micro-frontend architectures or contributing to a shared internal design system
- Experience building personalization, recommendation, offer-ranking, or loyalty/cashback UI
- Experience with affiliate network integrations or e-commerce/marketplace platforms
- Familiarity with identity, benefits, or credential-based access concepts
