
Gear Metrology & Incoming Quality Specialist
Lucid Motors is seeking a precision-driven Metrology & Incoming Quality Specialist to lead inspection, measurement, and validation efforts for critical components in high-performance EV drivetrain systems. This role is central to the development of Lucid’s Powertrain Quality Lab in Arizona, supporting advanced metrology for gears, shafts, housings, and other drivetrain elements. The ideal candidate will bring deep hands-on experience in gear metrology as well as broader incoming quality inspection across mechanical and electromechanical components.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead incoming quality inspection processes for components including gears, shafts, housings, fasteners, and castings, with a focus on gear inspection and metrology using CNC Gear Measuring Machines (GMMs) such as Klingelnberg, Gleason, and Zeiss.
- Perform roll testing (single-flank and double-flank) to evaluate transmission error, rolling noise, and meshing characteristics.
- Conduct surface roughness measurements using Klingelnberg, Mahr, Bruker, or equivalent profilometers.
- Develop and optimize gears and other mechanical/electromechanical components inspection programs inspection programs, gage plans, and fixtures for lab and production environments.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and apply ISO/AGMA standards for gear tolerances and finish.
- Execute Gage R&R studies and maintain measurement system integrity through calibration and verification.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and supplier teams to resolve gear deviations and support root cause analysis.
- Generate detailed inspection reports for PPAP, DV/PV, and supplier communication.
- Contribute to the strategic development of Lucid’s Geartrain and Powertrain Quality Lab infrastructure and workflows.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in gear inspection, preferably in aerospace, automotive, or defense sectors.
- Proficiency in CMM programming (CALYPSO, OpenDMIS) and gear inspection software (GEARPRO, GEMS, GDS).
- Experience with gear metrology tools: Klingelnberg P series, Gleason GMS, Zeiss CMMs, Mahr profilometers and general mechanical inspection equipment.
- Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), ISO 10360, SPC, Cp/Cpk, GR&R, and PPAP processes.
- Ability to lead training, mentor teams, and develop standard work procedures.
- Familiarity with non-contact metrology (CT scanning, optical systems) is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with EV drivetrain gear systems or high-speed gear applications.
- Six Sigma, ASQ, or similar quality certifications.
- Exposure to Industry 4.0 tools like Zeiss PiWeb or similar data management platforms.
- CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, NX) and fixture/tooling design experience.
Base Pay Range (Annual)
$57 - $79 USD
