
Staff Quality Engineer, Paint
As a Staff, Quality Engineer within the Lucid Paint Shop, you will lead efforts to ensure world-class painted finishes on every vehicle. You will own quality systems for paint processes, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to eliminate defects and optimize performance. Your technical expertise and leadership will help maintain Lucid’s commitment to uncompromising quality.
You will:
- Oversee the paint manufacturing process from a quality perspective, ensuring all operations align with Lucid’s overall quality strategy.
- Develop and implement quality-focused engineering trials to confirm materials meet industry standards and internal quality objectives.
- Coordinate with Process Engineers to determine material processes that are best suited for manufacturing equipment while maintaining compliance with quality requirements.
- Establish and enforce high-quality results for coating systems, validating process specifications and ensuring adherence to quality standards.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for paint-related defects using advanced quality tools (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D).
- Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to align material development with functional, aesthetic, and quality requirements.
- Train and mentor quality technicians on inspection techniques and quality standards.
- Ensure proper use and calibration of specialized inspection equipment (e.g., Elcometer, Wavescan, BYK-maci, PELT).
- Ensure compliance with ISO9001 and 6S standards.
You bring:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Quality, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in automotive paint quality or process engineering (OEM or Tier 1 preferred).
- Strong knowledge of paint shop processes: pre-treatment/e-coat, primer/basecoat/clearcoat systems, robotic application, and curing ovens.
- Proficiency in quality methodologies (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC) and problem-solving tools.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Flexibility to support production schedules, including nights and weekends as needed.
