
Dimensional Engineer - Body in White
Summary
The BIW Dimensional Engineer is responsible for optimal dimensional conditions through all processes in the Body-in White (BIW) shop ensuring product integrity, tooling design input and measurement data analysis. You will work cross-functionally with design, quality, production and maintenance teams to maintain and improve geometric quality. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineer able to manage and perform all activities related to the metrology center.
You Will:

Ensure dimensional accuracy of vehicles using GD&T principles

Analyze 3D measurements data and statistical process control reports to identify root causes of variation

Define and manage datum schemes and locating strategies for stamped parts, sub-assemblies and full body

Collaborate with Operations, ME, and Quality during all launch phases getting accurate data and generating dimensional reports for quality loops

Work individually on Scanbox Program development and CMM programming

Develop and validate geometry-related processes for BIW tooling and fixtures (jigs, clamps, locators' pins, etc.), using 3-2-1 principle

Support launch activities and ramp-up by driving geometric conformance to target specifications

Work closely with tooling engineers to ensure fixture designs maintain geometric stability

Assist in commissioning and tryouts of new tools, ensuring they meet dimensional performance targets

Support GR&R studies on measurement equipment

Use statistical tools to interpret data trends and propose corrective actions

Monitor and report KPI’s related to geometry and dimensional quality

Provide regular status updates to plant and global ME leadership
You Bring:
-
Understanding of BIW manufacturing processes such as welding, hemming and joining techniques

Strong experience with 3D measurement techniques (CMM, laser scanning, etc.)

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis

Effective communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment

Strong Knowledge of Fixture certification, in line measurement equipment's

Knowledge of automotive quality systems (APQP, PPAP, SPC, FMEA)

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or related field

8–10 years of experience in BIW process specifically in geometry or dimensional engineering

Green Belt or Black Belt certification
