The Data Engineer is responsible for maintaining and expanding our data applications and data infrastructure, primarily with Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure Logic Applications, PowerBI Data Gateways and on-premise SQL Servers. This role reports to the Software Engineering Manager.
Please note that this position is only open to candidates currently residing in Colorado.

- $90,000 - $105,000/year

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- On a daily basis
- Maintain and monitor the existing data warehouse architected based on broad relational tables and simple joins. Entire system is SQL Server 2022 centric using stored procedures, SQL jobs and Integration Server (SSIS).
- Maintain and enhance the new Enterprise Data Warehouse architected based on Data Vault concepts. This is a hybrid system leveraging both Azure and on-premise SQL Server 2022 tooling.
- Maintain and monitor the existing ETL processes based on SQL Jobs running SSIS, Python, Powershell and C# tasks.
- Maintain and enhance the new ETL processes based in Azure using Data Factory (ADF) calling Logic Apps, Function Apps and on-premise code as needed.
- Data Architecture Development – Design, build, and maintain organization’s data architectures. This involves creating blueprints for data management systems that are scalable and efficient. Anticipate future data needs and ensure that the systems can grow and adapt as requirements evolve.
- Data Pipeline Construction and Maintenance – Constructs and maintain data pipelines, for automating the flow of data from various sources. This involves coding, testing, and continuously optimizing these pipelines to ensure smooth, error-free data flow. Within these pipelines, implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to facilitate the preparation and transformation of data for analytical or operational uses.
- Database Management and Optimization –Responsible for the setup, management, and fine-tuning of databases. Ensure that databases are structured effectively, run smoothly, and are optimized for quick queries. This includes both SQLand NoSQL databases, depending on the organization’s needs.
- Analytics Support including for Machine Learning –Build and maintain the infrastructure required for existing and new Machine Learning and Advanced Analytics efforts. Prepare and provide the necessary data and contribute to model development and deployment.
- Other cross functional tasks
- Closely support the Business Intelligence Team creation of reports.
- Develop new database objects, processes, packages, exports, and reports that meet provided specifications.
- Monitor and improve performance of key reports and processes.
- Perform quality assurance checks and design automated tests to ensure high levels of product quality and reliability.
- Administer the data and reporting servers; installing updates, configuration, error resolution, server security and monitoring server health and reliability.
- Actively contribute to successful team project accountability using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Provide data and reports required for enterprise applications, self-service reporting and analytics for users throughout the organization and our external partners.
- Create and maintain documentation for all projects.
- Consult with other staff members regarding database design and development, application integration, and other data and reporting infrastructure needs.

EDUCATION: Minimum of High School Diploma required, Bachelor’s degree highly preferred in Computer Science, Analytics, Information Systems, or another related field. Some college or technical school education and experience equivalent accepted with certifications preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of four years’ experience providing meaningful SQL development and data engineering work. Experience within a healthcare environment highly valued.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
Minimum:
- Microsoft SQL Server development, including SSIS package development, SQL Jobs, and schema or table design. Or other ETL tooling experience
- Database administration including security and maintenance best practices
- Write creative, sophisticated, and maintainable SQL
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with both technical and non-technical staff
- Ability to organize and prioritize work, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines
- Experience writing complex SQL stored procedures
- Experience with some type of programming or scripting language
Highly Desired:
- Experience with Azure Data Factory creating new ETL processes in ADF.
- Experience with other Azure tools such as Logic Apps, Key Vault, Function Apps, Storage Accounts, DevOps, and Azure SQL.
- Interest and commitment to good development practices, including source control, test driven development, continuous integration and deployment
- Experience with one or more of the other languages and technologies used at WellPower (e.g., Java, C#, Python, R, REST APIs) highly desirable for our SSIS job scripts.
- Power BI experience creating and maintaining dashboards
- Experience with R, machine learning and other advanced analytics tools
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT TO BE USED: Linux, PC Computer, MS Office software, MS SQL Server Management Studio, Azure, Tableau
WORKING CONDITIONS: May require occasional evening or weekend hours. This hybrid position is based in Denver, Colorado and requires regular on-site time.
