Job Summary
The Director of Vehicle Integration and Test (VIT) oversees all aspects of satellite assembly and test from component delivery through final environmental test, preparation to ship, shipment from the factory, and integration of satellites to the launch vehicle. The Director of VIT leads teams responsible for prototype, early production, and production VIT. The Director of VIT collaborates with Programs, Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, and Security to meet VIT cost and schedule targets and leads their team toward future cost and schedule improvement goals to ensure company competitiveness. The Director of VIT reports to the Vice President, Manufacturing.

Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to VIT management and personnel. Accountable for ensuring that satellites are manufactured safely to company quality standards and service levels while achieving cost improvement goals.
- Set and enforce assembly and test execution discipline and rigor to ensure satellites will work on orbit.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of the health of VIT with respect to capacity, work force, throughput, and bottlenecks.
- Oversee Millennium factory build efforts with respect to: staffing, planning of satellite production lines, and flight program builds (both classified and unclassified).
- Define and execute continuous improvement strategies and initiatives to achieve business objectives.
- With the assistance of team leads, manage VIT engineers and technicians (avionics and harness, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and environmental test) to produce satellites.
- Develop, lead and execute tasks required to transition hardware build from low-rate initial production to higher rate production.
- Lead and execute tasks required to transition hardware build to different manufacturing locations.
- Support proposals for future contracts and coordinate throughout the proposal gate review process.
- Support and implement AS9100 Quality practices.
- Partner with Boeing Space & Launch Operations counterparts as a Boeing non-fully integrated subsidiary leader.
- Support management of Millennium Space Systems’ Inventory budgets, Process Improvement budgets, and capital budgets.
- Communicate state of the company to VIT personnel.
- Provide design for manufacturability guidelines to drive standardization within engineering process.
- Manage and maintain staffing, facility and capital plans:3-5 year capital expenditure plans
- 1-3 year vertical capability plans
- 1-3 year staffing plans
• Work with other directors across the organization to ensure VIT requirements are supported through proposals and initial phases of program execution.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or related field
- 15 years’ experience in manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, test engineering materials and process engineering, or similar field in Aerospace, Automotive, or Commercial industries
- Bring a level of subject matter expertise to one of the following areas: medium-rate production (10-100 complex products per year), complex mechanical integration, complex hardware-software integration, complex test system, production automation.
- This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10 years of focused experience in space system integration
- 10-12 direct vehicle integration experience
- High level of proficiency in MRP/ERP, Jira, MS Project, manufacturing execution systems, configuration management
- Knowledge of satellite manufacturing engineering principles and concepts
- Must have technical problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel for launch site integration
- Leadership and team-building skills
- Commitment to organizational and corporate goals
- Experience working with a union represented work force
- Active TS/SCI Clearance
Summary Pay-Range
Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only of what is reasonably expected to be paid for the position. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
- Level L: $166,600 - $245,000
