ModMed is hiring a driven Lead Database Administrator responsible for architecting, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing the company’s SQL Server database systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in application performance tuning, database optimization, and troubleshooting, as well as experience guiding best practices across development and infrastructure teams. As the lead DBA, you will provide both technical leadership and strategic direction for our database environments, ensuring stability, scalability, and high performance across mission-critical applications. This role is based at our HQ in Boca Raton, FL.
Your Role:
- Lead the design, administration, maintenance, and optimization of Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Collaborate closely with application developers and architects to optimize queries, stored procedures, and overall application/database performance.
- Monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot performance issues across the full database and application stack.
- Design and implement high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions and oversee backup and recovery strategies, security compliance, and database capacity planning.
- Define and enforce database standards, processes, and best practices across our engineering organization.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to other DBAs and engineering teams.
- Stay current with SQL Server advancements, performance tuning tools, and emerging database technologies.
Skills & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields.
- 10+ years experience in developing and maintaining database applications on any platform.
- 8+ years experience in an operations environment, supporting live production Microsoft SQL Server databases and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- 2+ years of experience using cloud-native SQL database solutions, such as Amazon RDS for SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, or similar.
- Strong database design and development skills.
- Proven expertise in performance tuning and optimization using native monitoring tools, DMVs, execution plans, and third-party utilities.
- Strong T-SQL development skills with experience optimizing queries, indexing strategies, and schema design.
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server 2016 and later, including Always On Availability Groups, Replication, and Partitioning.
- Proven experience in supporting enterprise-level database applications, including proficiency with backup/recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Solid understanding of Windows Server, networking, and storage concepts as they relate to SQL Server performance.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
