Assistant Vice President, Life Sciences and Healthcare

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Innovation Industries department at NYCEDC oversees real estate and capital projects, financial incentives, government wayfinding and regulatory reform, and workforce initiatives and diverse entrepreneurship programs to ensure New York City remains a global leader in innovation, and that we provide pathways of opportunity for all New Yorkers in our tech, life sciences, clean tech, and creative industries.
We are industry ambassadors and champions, engaging with private sector, philanthropic, government, NGO, and academia leadership to understand the rapidly changing landscape of NYC’s key growth sectors. For example, we launch wet and dry labs, video game production facilities, or AI and robotics innovation studios for therapeutic discovery and healthcare tech.
LifeSci NYC is NYCEDC’s $1Billion initiative to create 40,000 new jobs and establish NYC as a global leader in life sciences that builds on our diverse talent pool, renowned medical research institutions, robust VC ecosystem, and world-class commercial lab spaces.
As a member of the Life Sciences and Healthcare team, the Assistant Vice President (AVP) will support established and emerging projects with research and ideation, strategy development, procurement, launch, ongoing oversight, and closeout. AVPs coordinate cross-functional project teams, communicating with multiple internal and external stakeholders, both public and private, and manage and coach Senior Project Managers and Project Managers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contribute to and execute NYCEDC’s strategic vision for life sciences and healthcare.
- Oversee programs, ensuring accurate tracking project milestones, driving program excellence through our operators, and reporting on metrics, impact, and financial performance.
- Lead project planning and coordinate cross-functional project teams, to ensure objectives are achieved and timelines are met.
- Support project estimating, budgeting, and forecasting, ensuring accurate planning and accountability.
- Support procurement drafting, outreach, due diligence, respondent selection, contracting and underwriting documentation, and supervision of implementation.
- Conduct research, data gathering and analysis, financial modeling, and expert interviews, to report on industry trends and needs, regulatory challenges, policies, industry dynamics, and news.
- Draft presentations and memoranda for key stakeholders including senior EDC staff, City Hall staff, partner agencies, and external partners.
- Assist with engagement of industry and academic partners, workforce development organizations, and regulatory and public agencies to advance our life sciences and healthcare priorities, and attract their expansion in New York.
- Execute events such as roundtables and advisory board meetings, preparing EDC speakers with background research and talking points.
- Actively contribute to team building, staff, and departmental development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate degree required, advanced degree in a related field preferred
- 5+ years of professional experience in a relevant field such as biotechnology, public health, operations and project management, consulting, venture capital, life sciences real estate, strategic planning, program design and execution, partnership management
- Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of life sciences and healthcare industry
- Demonstrated proficiency with industry research, project management, and financial analysis
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and engagement with external stakeholders
- Demonstrated accountability, drive, and track record for delivering results
- Keen attention to detail and ability to prioritize competing needs and opportunities
- Highly analytical and strategically minded, with a proven ability to creatively navigate and solve complex challenges
- Proactive “self-starter” and “team player” who is enterprising and resourceful, organized and results-oriented
- Must obtain/maintain New York City residency within 180 days of hire
Position Funding: This position is funded by International Business Development funds provided by external funding. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of funds. Funds are expected until July 31, 2028. Employment at NYCEDC is at will and may be terminated by employee or company at any time regardless of funding.
Salary Range
$100,000 - $103,000 USD
