Senior Vice President, Equity and Community Impact

Position Overview: Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Equity and Community Impact, the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Equity & Community Impact at NYCEDC is responsible for leading economic mobility initiatives, and accessibility in alignment with the organization's mission. The SVP will develop strategic plans, monitor progress, and ensure alignment with advocacy priorities, while also managing partnerships, budgets, and initiatives. Additionally, the SVP will utilize data-driven decision-making to inform strategy and outcomes, requiring strong leadership and deep flexibility in a fast-paced ever-changing environment. This role will lead the Equity team and will be responsible for mentoring staff and fostering cross-functional collaboration.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Strategic and Data Driven Leadership
- Provide strategic leadership for equity, economic mobility and accessibility initiatives, ensuring alignment with NYCEDC’s mission, goals, and policy priorities.
- Lead the Equity Department, fostering a high-performance culture through strategic direction, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver impactful initiatives.
- Develop and implement the program's strategic plan and monitor progress, troubleshoot challenges, and adjust priorities, as needed.
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Vice President of Equity and Community Impact to ensure strategy and efforts align with the organization's advocacy priorities and policy initiatives. This includes integrating policy goals into community strategies and ensuring that engagement activities support the broader mission.
- Oversee strategic planning processes, including the development of KPIs, dashboards, and business reviews, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and reporting progress to the President’s Office, Department Leaders and the Board.
- Provide annual program planning outcomes and results for the division, including projected budget expenditures
- Collaborate with senior executives and external partners, including government officials and industry experts, to develop and implement innovative, data-driven strategies that advance equity, economic mobility and accessibility.
- Lead various committees and working groups, managing the evaluation and selection of key partners to support economic mobility and equitable development initiatives.
Operations Management
- Lead the expansion and management of workforce development and education partnerships, collaborating with employers, funders, industry experts, unions, and community-based organizations.
- Oversee the development and implementation of start-up programs and their operational budgets in partnership with government and private sector entities, connecting students to career-track jobs.
- Guide cross-functional teams on special projects or organizational initiatives, defining objectives, timelines, and resources to ensure successful execution.
- Set project goals, manage workplans, timelines, budgets, and resources in coordination with finance and other departments.
- Lead proposal development, including procurement, partnership management, and program design.
- Enhance the organization's influence in workforce and economic development, focusing on racial equity, occupational training, education, and work-based learning.
- Provide leadership and strategic direction to a diverse team of Vice Presidents, Assistant Vice Presidents and Senior Program Managers.
Community and Partner Engagement:
- Build and sustain high-level relationships with key community leaders, government officials, private sector partners, and other stakeholders to drive NYCEDC’s mission.
- Represent NYCEDC as a primary ambassador, advocating for the organization’s strategic initiatives in key forums and public engagements.
- Guide the creation of communication strategies in consultation with External Affairs, ensuring consistent messaging for initiatives and engaging stakeholders to shape policy-focused strategies.
- Lead strategic community engagement and advocacy efforts, aligning campaigns with NYCEDC’s policy goals and advancing economic mobility priorities.
- Spearhead coalition-building initiatives, uniting diverse stakeholders to address critical economic development challenges and foster strategic, collaborative partnerships.
- Forge strategic alliances to secure funding and advance shared objectives.
- Oversee cross-divisional collaboration, identifying synergies and opportunities to pilot innovative approaches.
- Proactively address and resolve stakeholder concerns, ensuring alignment with NYCEDC’s core values and strategic objectives.
- Act as the primary liaison for CUNY and related workforce development programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Public or Business Administration, Economics, the Social Sciences, or a related field
- At least (8) years of relevant experience in workforce training, economic development, or related fields and/or equivalent education achievements
- At least (5) years of experience designing and leading innovative strategies that have had a demonstrated impact in advancing economic mobility for disadvantaged communities or similar barriers to employment, particularly through a racial equity framework
- Strategic Leadership & Multi-Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to lead complex initiatives, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple deadlines. Skilled in building relationships with senior officials and external stakeholders across sectors, fostering trust and collaboration.
- Cross-Government & Workforce Expertise: Extensive experience interacting with federal, state, and local government officials in workforce-related agencies, with a solid understanding of workforce research, policy, programming, and emerging trends.
- Team Development & Professional Growth: Demonstrated success in team building, staff supervision, and professional development, cultivating an environment that promotes learning, adaptability, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Data-Driven & Equity-Focused Decision Making: Strong quantitative and critical thinking skills with the ability to work with complex data, apply social equity principles, and effectively communicate insights to diverse audiences.
- New York City residence within 180 days of hire.
Salary Range
$175,000 - $185,000 USD
