Project Accountant

ON.energy is seeking a Project Revenue Recognition Accountant to lead the accounting analysis and implementation of complex revenue arrangements across our renewable energy, energy storage, and software-enabled energy management businesses. This role will serve as the subject matter expert for ASC 606, partnering closely with finance, commercial, legal, operations, and project teams to evaluate customer contracts, determine appropriate revenue recognition methodologies, and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP.
The ideal candidate has deep experience applying ASC 606 in complex contractual environments, strong technical accounting expertise, experience working with U.S.-based or multinational organizations, and exceptional analytical and documentation skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary accounting resource for ASC 606 revenue recognition matters across the organization.
- Review and analyze customer contracts to identify performance obligations, transaction prices, variable consideration, contract modifications, and principal-versus-agent considerations.
- Prepare and maintain technical accounting memoranda supporting revenue recognition conclusions in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Partner with commercial, legal, and operations teams during contract negotiations to assess accounting implications and optimize contract structures.
- Develop and maintain revenue recognition policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue close processes, including complex revenue calculations, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Analyze and document accounting treatment for:
- Revenue recognition (ASC 606)
- Contract assets and liabilities
- Multiple-element arrangements
- Derivatives and fair value measurements
- Consolidation and other complex accounting matters
- Assist with financial statement preparation and revenue-related disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Evaluate accounting implications of new products, service offerings, energy management agreements, storage contracts, and other commercial arrangements.
- Support accounting for project finance structures, joint ventures, leases, equity investments, and debt instruments as needed.
- Support external audits and collaborate closely with auditors on revenue-related accounting matters.
- Monitor emerging accounting guidance and evaluate the impact of new FASB standards on revenue accounting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5–8 years of experience in public accounting, technical accounting, revenue accounting, or corporate accounting.
- Strong expertise in ASC 606 Revenue Recognition.
- Experience evaluating complex contracts and preparing technical accounting analyses and memoranda.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
- Experience working with U.S.-based companies or multinational organizations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (and Spanish preferred).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
