In 2022, we closed on our Series E, raising $240 million, and have offices in California, Texas, and New York as well as many remote opportunities. Our growth includes recent acquisitions of Great Jones (full-service property management),  Stessa (financial management software) to empower customers with a seamless way to acquire, manage, and track their investment properties on one platform, RentPrep (tenant screening and placement service for landlords), and Mynd (property management platform for both Retail and Institutional investors).

About the role:

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our team. You will be leading a team of AI Engineers focused on GenAI infrastructure and applications. You will partner with leaders in our Product, Data and Engineering teams to refine and execute on our GenAI strategy.

Your responsibilities will spread across People, Process and Technology. You will drive your team including recruiting, coaching, and performance management. You will recommend and refine the engineering processes to establish accountability and performance. You will work with your engineers to develop a technical strategy to build for maintainability and scale, while promoting innovative opportunities across the team.

This role reports to the VP of Data within the Data organization. Data is centralized within Roofstock and provides solutions for all of our applications and business to utilize.

Responsibilities 

  • Build and manage an engineering team across multiple time zones/countries.
  • Cultivate high standards for communication, ownership, and quality while executing asynchronously.
  • Develop future technical leaders by fostering technical and people skills development while identifying opportunities for mentorship and training.
  • Ensure team tasks are transparent, organized, on schedule and expectations are managed.
  • Ensure team processes and documentation are adhered to and improved upon.
  • Partner with other leaders to refine and deliver on our GenAI strategy building both infrastructure for other teams/applications to utilize and zero to one point solutions.
  • Be a strong voice of clarity in a world of a growing startup, and teach your teams to function when faced with ambiguity.

About you

  • 5+ years as an individual contributor engineer.
  • 3+ years managing engineering teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong experience building AI applications, ideally GenAI based utilizing Agents, RAG and LLMs.
  • Experience with Java, Python, distributed systems design (microservices), and data assets.
  • Ability to understand, diagnose, and effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
  • Deep understanding of Processes, and how to build and iterate within a high-performing team.
  • Empathy for individuals on the team, the ability to have hard conversations, demand and achieve high performance, and prioritize a culture that leads to sustained success.
  • Flexible to find ways to apply software best practices to non-deterministic solutions.

Conditions

  • You speak English fluently.
  • You are an independent engineer (not a part of the agency) and able to work ~40 hours/week Monday-Friday.
  • You're committed to being available until noon Pacific time zone (not particularly working - answering in Slack and participating in occasional meetings).
  • Camera and microphone are required during the interview, once hired during team meetings/discussions/etc.
  • Remote work with a distributed team of engineers located across the Americas and Eurasia
  • Weekly wages

Compensation

The compensation range may be adjusted based on experience and location.

Pay Transparency

Our compensation reflects several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position represents the expected salary for this position.  Ultimately, in determining your pay it will be based on several factors including location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and other job related factors.  Roofstock is a total compensation company; the base salary is only part of our total compensation package.
