As a Senior Product Quality Engineer (PQE) – Software, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring our vehicle software is safe, stable, secure, and robust—on day one and throughout its lifecycle.
What you’ll do
As part of the Product Quality team, you'll serve as the quality liaison across embedded software, connectivity, OTA systems, and vehicle digital platforms, from concept to warranty. You will define quality strategies for software releases, lead software-related issue resolution, and support our supplier and plant teams in launching a zero-defect product.

- Software Quality Planning & Assurance
- Define and implement software quality plans aligned with ASPICE and ISO standards.
- Ensure software validation coverage for critical ECUs, drive units, ADAS features, vehicle control modules, and connectivity gateways.
- Participate in reviews of software DFMEAs, verification plans, and requirements traceability.
- Launch & Production Support
- Support pre-series builds and software milestones at our Columbia assembly plant.
- Provide rapid triage and containment for launch-blocking software defects (e.g., flashing errors, drive mode failures, HMI bugs).
- Drive software defect resolution in collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Software Release teams.
- Field Performance & OTA Monitoring
- Own quality oversight of post-SOP software updates, recalls, and campaign releases.
- Use diagnostic and telemetry tools to monitor real-time field software behavior and customer impact.
- Collaborate with Warranty and Service Engineering teams to root cause systemic field software issues.
- Standards, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Support ASPICE assessments, software release gates, and cybersecurity reviews (ISO 21434).
- Lead lessons-learned capture from field campaigns and integrate into new vehicle program cycles.
- Help shape Scout’s long-term software quality frameworks and toolchains
Work Environment:
- Office, testing lab, and manufacturing floor environment.
- Occasional exposure to industrial settings where personal protective equipment may be required.
Location & Travel Expectations:
- This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, SC.
- The responsibilities of this role require daily attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly.
- Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.
- Travel: International & Domestic, 40 - 70% of the time. Valid driver's license and passport required

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in software quality, embedded systems development, or systems validation in the automotive or tech industry.
- Experience with automotive ECUs, diagnostic tools (UDS, CANoe/CANalyzer), and software issue tracking (Jira, DOORS, or similar).
- Working knowledge of ASPICE, ISO 26262, and ISO 21434
- Familiarity with OTA tools, test benches, CI/CD pipelines, and static code analysis.
- Preferred:
- Prior experience in a startup, EV, or launch environment (pre-SOP through SOP+).
- Hands-on experience with automotive system integration, cybersecurity reviews, or functional safety assessments.
- Exposure to embedded Linux, AUTOSAR, or Android Automotive OS environments.
- Supplier interface experience, especially with embedded software and calibration suppliers.

Pay Transparency
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Initial base salary range = $120,000.00 - $145,000.00
