Position Overview:

We are looking for a highly organized and execution-driven Supervisor of Inbound Logistics Operations based in Mexico City to oversee the end-to-end inbound logistics process into Mexico (ground/air/ocean shipments). This role will be accountable for coordinating all import activities from Asia and other regions, as well as overseeing cross-border transfers from the U.S. into Mexico and downstream shipments into Latin America. The individual will own the partnership with freight forwarders, carriers, customer brokers and drayage to ensure that all inbound movements comply with legal and regulatory requirements, arrive within the established SLA, and are supported with the proper documentation and customs readiness. They will also lead escalation, reporting, and issue-resolution processes in real time with cross functional stakeholders.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Inbound Logistics Management

  • Supervise the importation of containers from Asia into Mexico, ensuring compliance with documentation requirements (e.g., certificates, invoices, HS codes, NOM compliance).
  • Coordinate and monitor intra-regional shipments from U.S. distribution centers into Mexico and onward into Central America (e.g., Guatemala, Costa Rica) as needed
  • Ensure all shipments are tracked and delivered on-time and in-full (OTIF), in accordance with regional SLAs.
  • Oversee and ensure logistics processes operate to department standards and communicate any deviations that will impact freight movements.

 

Customs & Regulatory Compliance

  • Assures compliance with customs, import, applicable foreign trade/importation laws as well as applicable federal transportation regulations.
  • Prioritize processing of proforma pedimento and UVA documents to compress timeline of customs release and gate-out from marine terminals
  • Understands operations, process and documentation flows at import ports, customs, rail yards, 3PL facilities and with all transportation providers and partners.
  • Coordinate and report duty/tax payments by logistics provider and bonded facility operator, including funding of accounts and PECE account oversight.
  • Oversee and coordinate the process of product certification compliance for all import shipments to ensure arriving goods have the necessary governmental approvals for immediate import, clearance and release to the market.
  • Remain current on industry and governmental regulations.

Transportation Vendor Manager

  • Identifies risks and opportunities when evaluating import logistics and freight spend to ensure safe and efficient transportation of company products.
  • Closely supervise logistics partners to ensure a high sense of urgency across the inbound supply chain including; document processing, customs broker releases, appointment for dispatch at marine terminals and duty/tax payment.
  • Monitor and supervise effectiveness of drayage/inland transportation, control tower, GPS tracking and security escort service.
  • Coordinate and ensure logistics data and documentation is recorded in our ERP system.
  • File claims when damaged products are discovered due to in-transit handling.
  • Oversee the engagement of bonded warehouse operators and compliance with governmental regulations and legal standards
  • Ensure proper paperwork archiving in line with agreed upon standards and regulations, providing easy and fast access.
  • Optimize use of carrier equipment (trailers/containers) to minimize penalty (demurrage/detention).
  • Expedite inbound shipments to avoid/minimize carrier and facility storage charges.

Reporting & Escalation

  • Maintain detailed trackers for:
    • Container status (in-transit, customs, delivered)
    • Documentation accuracy
    • Risk and issue logs
  • Certification expiration and revalidation timelines
  • Audit invoices related to the import of goods: finished goods, logistic services, customs brokers, drayage providers, carrier freight bills, duties and taxes for accuracy, and approve for payables department to issue payment.
  • Provide weekly visibility reports to internal stakeholders and escalate any risks to container release, compliance, or DC operations immediately.
  • Perform analytics, organize, generate, and prepare accurate reports to support business needs.
  • Provide cross-functional visibility to freight movements, customs clearance process and product availability in support of business needs.

DC Coordination & Receiving

  • Identify, review, and present opportunities to improve logistics processes within plant facilities, warehouse and distribution 3PLs and transportation carriers.  
  • Partner with the Supply Chain Sr Manager and the Order Management team for prioritization of containers and ensuring we have the required capacity at the 3PL (Storage and inbound labor).
  • Maintain/update department reports, tracking files, and logs for weekly management reviews.

Continuous Improvement & Collaboration

  • Partner with Planning, Sales, Product Compliance, and Transportation teams to drive proactive solutions and optimize inbound logistics.
  • Support systems improvement (e.g., Oracle, SharePoint, or TMS enhancements) with automation teams (e.g., Accenture) for real-time visibility and control.
  • Contribute to building standard operating procedures (SOPs) for importation and regional transfers.
  • Actively participate in both internal and external audits.
  • Participate in root cause analysis, after action reviews, and other process improvement meetings.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, industrial engineering, logistics, business or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience working with customs brokers and freight forwarders
  • Experience in the Consumer Packaged Goods or Electronics industries
  • In-depth understanding and working knowledge of applicable industry and governmental regulations.
  • Experience in product flow, inventory management, audit, and quality control is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of import processes, including related parties, processes, documentation and regulations.

Other Requirements:

  • Travel Required - up to 10%
