Who we’re looking for

You are equal parts prototyper and artist, with a keen eye for seeking out new opportunities for strategic product & business innovation. You strive to deeply understand new systems, technology, & tools and utilize them to create innovative, user-centered solutions in your product spaces. You thrive working in ambiguity and excel at defining the unknown.

You are a collaborator who can work hand in hand with a cross-functional team of best-in-class Designers, Engineers, Product Managers, and Business Partners to ideate, communicate and define new product experiences.

You will join a team focused on strategic product & business innovation, with the goal of identifying opportunities for new SONY products & businesses that would solve user problems across many markets & industries. You will report into the Gameplay design team in a hybrid role based in San Mateo. You’ll also be part of a larger SONY design organization that celebrates the value of design, design thinking, and design process. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a global team of designers focused on elevating the standard of design across the organization while exploring trailblazing, innovative concepts and defining new, user-centered experiences. 

What we need you to do 

  • Create real, trailblazing, innovative products and experiences out of vague & ambiguous concepts. 
  • Proactively seek out & identify new shifts & trends in the market, and work closely with cross-functional partners and other designers to generate new, innovative ideas for unique products and businesses
  • Be a self-starter who is comfortable with defining new UX patterns, flows, system components, products, and experiences from start to finish.
  • Be able to quickly produce multiple distinct UX/UI concepts for a single product.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across multiple teams, analyze feedback, and implement that feedback into your designs.
  • Rapidly iterate on design solutions based on engineering feasibility or other constraints.
  • Be a great speaker who is comfortable with giving presentations to stakeholders & leadership about your product, designs, & ideas.
  • Produce detailed specs and assets for implementation, and collaborate with product & engineering to ship best-in-class experiences for your user.
  • Be a passionate communicator who excels at describing an idea to audiences who are less familiar with your product than you are.

What you bring to the table

  • BA/BS in Interaction or Product Design, Human Factors, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience building user-centered interactive designs.
  • A portfolio that showcases thoughtful, simple, deliberate & intuitive design, with extraordinary interaction, motion, and visuals.
  • Strong communication skills to clearly articulate your process, concepts, and rationale.
  • Experience in designing products for multiple platforms across various industries.
  • Expertise with Figma/Sketch & Adobe Creative products
  • Ability to improve and expand upon existing design systems/components.
  • Ability to work unsupervised in an agile environment.

Bonus

  • Have past experience working in an Innovation Studio, Lab, or Incubator
  • Have a deep understanding of the PlayStation brand and our existing services.
  • Have shipped several products from start to finish. 
  • Are a gamer yourself, or are familiar with games/the game industry.
  • Experience working with decentralized or global teams. 
  • Experience crafting experiences for a global audience in multiple languages.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$145,000 - $217,600 USD
