Sr. Director of Strategic Planning & Platform Strategy

San Mateo, CA

We are looking for a Senior Director of Strategic Planning & Platform Strategy to join our strategy team at PlayStation. This senior leader will be responsible for influencing and shaping the company’s mid-range strategy (3–5 years) by developing forward-looking plans, scenario planning, and creating strategic frameworks that anticipate future industry, market, and technology trends.

This role is key in driving strategic alignment across the organization and ensuring the business is well-positioned to adapt and lead in a rapidly evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Mid-Range Strategy Development:

  • Lead the creation and refinement of 3–5 year strategic roadmaps that align with long-term vision and near-term priorities.

Foresight and Scenario Planning:

  • Develop, lead, and institutionalize structured scenario planning processes to evaluate potential futures, risks, and opportunities in the media and technology landscape.

Trend and Market Intelligence:

  • Synthesize insights from market research, consumer behavior, emerging technologies, and global macro trends to inform strategic decisions.

Cross-Functional Leadership:

  • Collaborate with senior leaders across product, content, technology, finance, and business management/operations to align mid-range plans with functional strategies and execution plans.

Strategic Frameworks and Toolkits:

  • Build and deploy strategy toolkits that enable the organization to assess options, prioritize investments, and measure strategic progress.  Manage projects to drive key areas of optionality.

Executive Communication:

  • Deliver compelling presentations and strategic recommendations to C-suite and Senior Leadership audiences; translate complex analytics and business model insights into actionable decisions.

Innovation & Growth Identification:

  • Identify and evaluate new opportunities for innovation, strategic partnerships, and business model innovation.

  • Essential Experience and Skills

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in strategic planning, business strategy, or product management, preferably within the gaming, entertainment, or technology sectors.
  • Origination and Shaping of Subscription or Service-Based Businesses: Experience in constructing value propositions, business models, and go-to-market strategies.
  • Industry Expertise: Strong preference for candidates with expertise in the game industry, including knowledge of game landscapes, player policies, and technology changes.

Skills

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, highly skilled in storytelling with data and insights.
  • Strategy Development: Demonstrated expertise in owning the strategy development of a business unit or product line at a large company, managing various stakeholders.
  • Executive Influence: Proven track record of influencing executive leadership and aligning diverse teams around strategic priorities.
  • Analytical and Critical Thinking: Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to distill complexity into clear, concise strategies.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$275,000 - $412,400 USD
