Associate Corporate Counsel, Marketing and Advertising 
San Mateo, CA (hybrid) OR Los, Angeles, CA (hybrid) - will require coming into our offices 2 times per week 

Join PlayStation as Associate Corporate Counsel for the marketing and advertising legal team and be at the forefront of shaping the future of entertainment! In this role, you'll provide legal support for SIE’s global marketing team in connection with the marketing and advertising of the PlayStation brand, and its wide array of gaming and entertainment related products and services, including hardware, peripherals, video games and subscription services. You will provide counseling and transactional support to marketing teams to assist them with their initiatives, as part of a global legal team. 

We’re looking for someone who can confidently navigate a high volume of transactions, offering sound guidance that balances legal risks with business goals. You should have experience with counseling on marketing and advertising and relevant laws and regulations. What you’ll be doing:

  • Work with a team of lawyers and paralegals to review marketing campaigns and related materials (including video commercials, print advertisements, social media postings, website pages, toolkits, blog postings, and press releases), to provide timely and nuanced legal advice to marketing teams in connection with claims substantiation, truth-in-advertising, regulatory compliance, intellectual property clearance, and related advertising law issues.  
  • Draft and negotiate marketing-related contracts, including advertising agency agreements, vendor production agreements, creative services agreements, and non-disclosure agreements, as well as vendor contracts to support the global customer experience team.
  • Advise on global prize promotions, including drafting rules for sweepstakes and contests and reviewing related online advertising.
  • Understand and stay up to date on the latest legal developments related to marketing, advertising, and proactively advise the business of relevant legal developments.
  • Identify areas where PlayStation’s internal legal processes can be improved to better support the Global Marketing Organization, and work with internal stakeholders to drive those changes forward. 
  • Develop legal guidelines and provide training to marketing teams.
  • Collaborate with counterparts in other SIE regions, including the UK, Europe, Asia Pacific and Japan to anticipate and address challenges related to the Global Marketing Organization, and to identify and resolve issues. 

What we’re looking for: 

  • At least 3 years of legal practice, particularly working as in-house counsel in an interactive entertainment or technology company.
  • JD or LLM degree from top law school; admitted to a U.S. state bar. California State Bar membership is preferred. At a minimum, the candidate must be qualified for and quickly obtain Registered In-House Counsel status in California and the willingness to maintain that status during employment.
  • Experience advising business teams and drafting and negotiating a wide range of contracts.
  • Working knowledge of marketing and advertising laws.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good judgment and strong analytical skills.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$181,000 - $271,600 USD
