Sound Designer, Contract

San Diego, CA – onsite

San Diego Studio is seeking an experienced, talented, creative interactive sound designer who is available on a long-term contract basis, and who is passionate about creating high-quality audio content for our interactive sports title, MLB: The Show.

Responsibilities:

  • Creation and delivery of original, authentic and immersive audio content for interactive gameplay, including sound design, sound effects and Foley.
  • Implementation of audio assets using middleware and scripting tools.
  • Sound design and mixing of linear cinematic and UI components.
  • Collaboration with the SDS audio team to deliver a cohesive, compelling, world-class audio experience.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Technical:

  • 2+ years of experience as Sound Designer for video games, 1+ shipped titles.
  • Expert command of editing and mixing techniques, processes and tools for interactive sound design and linear post-production:
    • Demonstrable DAW proficiency (ProTools, Reaper, etc.).
    • Expertise with professional audio editing tools (iZotope RX, DSP plugins, etc.)
    • Professional experience implementing audio in sound middleware, including commercial or proprietary game development tools (Wwise, FMOD, Unreal Engine, Sony Scream etc.).
    • Creative use of audio production tools, Foley performance and capture, and field and studio recording techniques to build high-quality, original audio assets.
    • Experience with database entry (Excel, Jira, etc.) and version control (Perforce).

Personal:

  • With a passion for audio and gaming and a drive to innovate, you are a proactive, creative and collaborative team player with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • A genuine passion for sports, specifically baseball, would ensure a good fit within the project and culture of the team.
  • An ability to work under pressure within tight deadlines is highly recommended.
  • Initiative and ownership of design responsibilities is strongly encouraged.

Additional valuable qualifications:

  • Sports game title or sports broadcast audio experience, athletic experience or athletic/sport knowledge is highly desired.
  • Experience in surround (5.1,7.1) and immersive, spatial/3D audio formats like Dolby Atmos, Ambisonics and binaural audio is a big advantage.

At SIE, working with our partners, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. 

Please note that the individual base pay range may vary based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

$42.88 - $64.75 USD
