The Opportunity

Alpha Inc. is seeking Heavy Civil Laborers who take pride in their craft, respect the crew they work with, and want to build a long-term career in civil construction.

These positions will support major water infrastructure improvement projects and heavy civil infrastructure projects across. It is a field-forward position requiring physical capability, situational awareness, and a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.

This posting represents a career band, not a single narrow slot. We are open to candidates at different stages of their journey — from developing laborers with foundational experience to highly skilled pipe and utility installers — as long as they bring the mindset, work ethic, and accountability that define an Alpha crew member.

About Alpha Inc.

Founded and grown in Hawaiʻi, Alpha Inc. is a locally owned leader in heavy civil construction, concrete, energy, drilling, and infrastructure services. Our projects support essential systems that serve island communities for generations.

Everything we do is guided by three core values:

  • Lead with Heart – We prioritize safety, respect, and doing right by our people.
  • Strength in Unity – We operate as one team across crews, projects, and departments.
  • Alpha Mentality – We bring grit, pride, and a relentless drive to improve.

Our labor force is the backbone of our company, and we invest accordingly.

What You’ll Do

As a Heavy Civil Laborer at Alpha Inc., you will support civil construction and underground utility operations under the direction of a Foreman. Depending on experience and capability, responsibilities may include:

  • Loading, unloading, transporting, and staging materials, tools, and equipment
  • Digging trenches, leveling ground, and assisting with excavation and backfill
  • Supporting installation of stormwater, sewer, and water utilities
  • Cleaning and maintaining jobsites and equipment to eliminate hazards
  • Operating hand tools and light equipment such as tampers, rollers, and skid loaders
  • Flagging traffic and supporting work-zone safety
  • Communicating clearly with crew members to maintain safe and efficient operations

More experienced laborers may also:

  • Assist with pipe alignment, bedding, and grade checks
  • Support equipment operators during lifting and placement activities
  • Work independently on routine tasks with minimal supervision

This is hands-on, production-driven work — and your skill directly impacts the success of the project.

What It Takes to Be an “A Player” Here

We’re not training from zero. We’re leveling up professionals.

Required Qualifications (Must-Haves – Laborer I & II Level)

To be successful in this role, you must bring the following:

  • At least foundational experience in civil construction or a strong willingness to learn in a physically demanding environment
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and perform work involving bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in trenches
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions
  • Strong commitment to jobsite safety and following direction
  • Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and team-oriented mindset
  • Clear communication skills and respect for the chain of command
  • A valid Driver’s License and clean driving record are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves – Laborer III Capabilities)

The following experience is not required, but will be viewed as a strong differentiator and may support placement at a higher pay rate:

  • Three or more years of civil construction experience with a focus on underground utilities
  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and layouts
  • Experience installing PVC, HDPE, and ductile iron pipe
  • Proficiency with pipe lasers, trench boxes, saws, and specialized utility tools
  • Experience performing hydrostatic or air pressure testing
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior laborers and lead by example on site
  • OSHA 10 or other relevant safety certifications

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
