WHY BOX NEEDS YOU
Develop applications that extend the reach of Box’s Content Cloud to where users get their work done - on their macOS and Windows devices. By combining deep OS-level integration with seamless access to cloud content we enable productivity for millions of users across industries with the speed and familiarity of local tools.
In this role, you will work on the most used Box client application, Box Drive. We’re looking for an experienced engineering manager to lead our Core Syncing team—the group responsible for the heart of how Box Drive keeps content in sync across devices. In this role, you’ll lead a team of talented engineers, shape the roadmap for mission-critical systems, and ensure our syncing technology continues to deliver seamless, reliable experiences to users who rely on Box to get their work done every day
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Guide Project Execution: You'll oversee your team's priorities, facilitate decision-making, and ensure projects are on track. You'll work closely with your scrum team to anticipate and mitigate roadblocks, ensuring smooth delivery of features and initiatives.
- Lead and Develop Your Team: You'll mentor and guide engineers, fostering their growth and ensuring they have the support needed to excel. This includes regular check-ins and ongoing development opportunities.
- Collaborate and Strategize: You'll work closely with product managers, designers, and other cross-functional teams to design, build, and ship end-to-end experiences. This includes regular collaboration with leads from other Desktop teams to align on broader strategies and shared initiatives.
- Shape the Future Roadmap: You'll actively participate in quarterly planning and estimation, contributing to the strategic direction and future roadmap for your scrum team and the broader Desktop organization.
- Innovate and Problem-Solve: You'll participate in design, planning, and architecture discussions, evaluating and giving feedback on various design approaches. You'll also dig deep into user pain points and solve complex problems related to performance, security, and more.
- Showcase Team Achievements: You'll regularly share project updates, investigations, and discoveries with the wider team, celebrating successes and fostering knowledge sharing.
WHO YOU ARE
- Strong interest in hands-on people management - working directly with engineers, supporting them on project delivery, and developing scrum team capabilities
- Strong ability to digest complex problems into smaller/simpler problems and design an action plan
- 3+ years experience as a software engineering manager, ideally with experience leading teams with remote and local members.
- 8+ years experience in a software engineering or related profession
- Strong empathy for users and customers - a desire to understand their use cases, and solve their pain points
- Strong communicator, able to build a compelling vision for their team
- Track record in engineering excellence, quality, simplicity and continuous improvement
