We are looking for an Engineering Manager II to lead and mentor a group of talented engineers responsible for developing and maintaining the Omni platform’s capabilities. Your leadership will ensure the Box platform capabilities are delivered securely and compliantly worldwide, while fostering a culture of high ownership, collaboration, and innovation. WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Partner with product management and technical leadership to define platform vision and roadmaps.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers focused on building scalable distributed systems, enabling them to do their best work.
- Lead design and implementation efforts for new services and components of our platform, from the ground up.
- Drive design and implementation of scalable services with a focus on reliability, observability, operability and efficiency.
- Work with cutting-edge technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, BigTable, Elasticsearch, Spark, Istio, etc.
- Strengthen engineering processes, principles, and culture within the team and across Box, by championing a culture of learning, continuous improvement, and blameless retrospection.
- Manage and coordinate the team’s on-call rotation to ensure timely and effective incident response, actively participate in escalated on-call incidents to provide leadership and support, and drive improvements by addressing recurring issues to minimize disruptions.
WHO YOU ARE
- You have 6+ years of experience in software engineering with 2 or more of those years in a management role
- You have proven experience managing and scaling high-performing engineering teams in complex, large-scale production environments
- You are an excellent communicator, able to clearly articulate technical vision and foster alignment across diverse stakeholders.
- You are a collaborative leader who empowers engineers, promotes ownership, and drives accountability
- You have experience owning and operating highly available business critical systems.
- You have a Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Based in or willing to work from our Redwood City office at least 3 days per week

Nice to Haves
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch/Solr/Lucene or other information retrieval systems.
- Familiarity with the RAG pattern and vector/semantic search systems.
- Experience with public clouds like Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services or Azure.
- Experience deploying and operating high volume and velocity microservices on Kubernetes.
