The Job

We’re looking for an experienced Global Head of PR + Communications to drive Flo’s PR and Communications forward during a six-month period while our current Global Head of Communications is on maternity leave. In this role, you will carry forward our global communication strategy, ensuring proactive and consistent thought leadership across all markets. You will effectively manage communications across various time zones, adapting your approach to meet the diverse needs of our global audience.

While we welcome candidates from all locations, those based on the East Coast are preferred, as the majority of our business operates in the UK and Europe, aligning better with collaboration across time zones.

Your Experience

Must have:

  • You have extensive experience in global communications, with a minimum of 10+ years in the field and a proven track record of developing and executing successful product launches, executive thought leadership, and crisis comms.
  • Your portfolio speaks for itself — you possess a strong rolodex of reporters and have the media wins to prove it.
  • You have 5+ years of crisis communication expertise, with the ability to manage crisis communications effectively, including the development of crisis communication plans and the capacity to respond swiftly and strategically during critical situations.
  • You possess collaborative leadership skills, having worked closely with C-level executives to align communication strategies with business objectives, ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms.
  • You excel at multitasking in fast-paced environments, thriving in dynamic settings while managing multiple projects simultaneously and maintaining high-quality output.
  • You have strong writing and editing skills, with an exceptional ability to craft clear, concise, and engaging content for diverse audiences across various communication channels.
  • You have effectively managed an external PR agency and understand the importance of maintaining consistent and transparent communication to ensure results.
  • You have previously worked for an app or in tech, as well as in a startup or scale-up environment.

Nice to have:

  • You have experience in femtech or related industries, with familiarity in the health technology sector and an understanding of privacy and security issues related to user data.
  • You possess cultural competence, with knowledge of international markets and cultural nuances that enable effective communication across diverse audiences.
  • You have experience in proactive campaign development, creating communication campaigns that educate users about privacy, security efforts, and brand initiatives.
  • You demonstrate digital communication proficiency, with familiarity in digital tools and platforms for effective communication and engagement with stakeholders.
  • You have crisis communication training, with certification or training in crisis management or communication strategies.
  • You have experience collaborating with an external SEO agency.

What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for:

  • Leading global communication strategy: Developing and implementing a comprehensive global communications strategy that aligns with Flo’s business objectives and enhances brand visibility across all markets.
  • Crisis communication management: Crafting and executing crisis communication plans to effectively manage potential issues as they arise. This includes preparing key messages, coordinating responses, and ensuring timely communication to stakeholders.
  • Proactive campaign development: Creating proactive communication campaigns that educate users about Flo’s product updates as well as privacy and security efforts. 
  • Media relations: Cultivating relationships with key media contacts to secure coverage that supports Flo’s brand narrative. This includes crafting press releases, managing media inquiries, and organizing press events as needed.
  • Collaborating with C-level executives: Working closely with senior leadership to ensure that communication strategies reflect organizational goals. This involves providing strategic counsel on messaging and public relations initiatives.
  • Collaborating across teams + managing external agencies: You will collaborate with key stakeholders including Flo’s science, medical, product marketing, and brand team to ensure that all communications are aligned with Flo’s overall strategy and objectives.  Additionally, you will manage an external PR agency to amplify our communication efforts while collaborating with an SEO agency to optimize our online presence.
  • Monitoring communication metrics: You will analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies through metrics such as media coverage, media sentiment, and share of voice. 
  • Guiding social media responses: You will provide guidance on social media responses in collaboration with the brand team, ensuring that our messaging is timely, relevant, and aligned with Flo’s voice. This includes developing strategies for engaging with users on social media platforms while addressing any inquiries or concerns effectively.

You'll be targeted on:

  • Securing a steady drumbeat of media coverage: You will focus on generating consistent top tier media coverage for Flo, ensuring that our brand remains top-of-mind among key audiences (US as primary outlet, UK as secondary). This includes developing and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets to facilitate ongoing press opportunities, crafting compelling press releases, and pitching stories that highlight Flo's innovations and contributions to women's health.
  • Securing speaking opportunities for C-level executives: You will identify and secure speaking engagements for Flo's C-level executives at industry conferences, panels, and webinars. Your goal will be to position our leaders as thought leaders in the femtech space, showcasing their expertise and insights on critical issues related to health technology, privacy, and security.
  • Securing awards and recognition: You will actively seek out award opportunities that recognize Flo's achievements in communications, innovation, and impact. By submitting nominations for relevant industry awards, you will help elevate our brand’s profile and validate our efforts in the market.
  • Developing proactive campaigns: You will design and implement proactive communication campaigns aimed at educating users about Flo's privacy and security measures. These campaigns will not only inform users but also build trust and confidence in our commitment to safeguarding their data.
  • Monitoring media sentiment and engagement: You will effectively track media coverage and public sentiment regarding Flo. This data will inform future campaigns and help refine messaging to better resonate with our audience.
