Who You Are:
We are looking for a seasoned Application Architect at the Managing Director level to serve as the enterprise application architect across our technology stack. This individual will lead the design the evolution of our application architecture, ensuring alignment with business strategy, scalability, security, and performance goals. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role reporting directly to the CTO, with the mandate to establish the best architectural practices and influence technology decisions across Galaxy.

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as the company’s principal architect for application design and development, with ownership of end-to-end system architecture.
  • Partner closely with the CTO and senior engineering leads to define the strategic architectural direction, technical vision, and roadmap.
  • Design and maintain scalable, resilient, secure, and high-performance systems to support crypto-native workflows, digital asset custody, and trading infrastructure.
  • Define architecture standards, patterns, and best practices across front-end, back-end, and cloud-native systems.
  • Provide hands-on guidance to engineering teams during solution design and implementation, ensuring consistency with architectural vision.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate tools, technologies, and frameworks; own the application architecture review process.
  • Act as a thought leader and mentor to technical teams, fostering a culture of engineering excellence and architectural rigor.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration across engineering, product, security, and infrastructure teams.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 15+ years of software engineering and architecture experience, with at least 5 years in a senior or principal architect role.
  • Strong track record designing and scaling distributed systems, particularly in fintech, crypto, or high-availability environments.
  • Deep understanding of secure application development, cryptographic principles, and secure key management.
  • Expertise in modern software development practices including microservices, event-driven architecture, cloud-native platforms (e.g., AWS/GCP), and containerization.
  • Experience with blockchain technologies, digital asset infrastructure, or decentralized systems is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and translate complex technical concepts into business terms.
  • Proven ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Bonus Points: 

  • Prior experience as the sole or lead application architect in a high-growth startup or crypto-native company.
  • Familiarity with financial services regulatory environments (e.g., SEC, FINRA, MiFID).
  • Strong software engineering background in languages such as Java, Go, Rust, or Kotlin.
  • Experience integrating with custody platforms, on-chain protocols, and institutional trading systems.

The base salary ranges included below will be commensurate with candidate experience, expertise and local market. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise. At Galaxy, we maintain a total compensation philosophy which consists of a competitive base salary, annual bonus, and equity incentives.

Base Salary Range

$250,000 - $300,000 USD
