THE OPPORTUNITY
We are hiring a Global Tax Policy & Controversy Director to our Tax team in São Paulo - Brazil!
The Global Tax Policy & Controversy Director is responsible for developing and implementing corporate tax policy strategies, monitoring tax legislation, and engaging with key stakeholders to advocate for the organization’s tax interests. This role requires expertise in domestic and international tax regulations, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with government agencies, industry groups, and internal teams.
YOUR IMPACT
- Tax Policy Strategy & Advocacy:
- Develop and implement tax policy strategies aligned with the company’s business objectives.
- Advocate for favorable tax policies by engaging with government authorities, industry associations, and policymakers.
- Assess the impact of tax legislation and regulatory changes on the company’s operations and financial position.
- Legislative & Regulatory Monitoring:
- Track and analyze emerging tax legislation, regulations, and trends at the domestic and international levels.
- Provide timely insights to senior management regarding potential tax risks and opportunities.
- Develop policy positions and recommendations based on legislative developments.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Representation:
- Represent the company in discussions with government agencies, tax authorities, and trade associations.
- Collaborate with internal departments, including accounting, legal, and internal controls, to align tax policy strategies.
- Participate in industry forums, conferences, and working groups to influence tax policy decisions.
- Research & Analysis:
- Conduct in-depth research on complex tax policy issues and develop white papers, position statements, and policy briefs.
- Support the company’s tax planning and compliance teams with insights on evolving tax policy matters.
- Evaluate the economic and business implications of proposed tax changes.
- Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure that the company adheres to evolving tax regulations and policy frameworks.
- Work closely with tax compliance teams to mitigate risks associated with tax policy changes.
- Provide guidance on tax governance and best practices.
- Tax Dispute Resolution & Litigation Management
- Lead the defense of disputes and litigation by coordinating with internal stakeholders and external legal counsel, ensuring compliance with tax laws and strategic risk mitigation.
WHO YOU ARE
- Bachelor’s degree in Taxation, Law, Economics, Accounting, or a related field (Master’s degree or LLM preferred).
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in tax policy, government relations, or a related field.
- Expertise in domestic and international tax laws, OECD guidelines, and corporate taxation.
- Strong knowledge of tax legislative processes and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience in engaging with government agencies, industry groups, and policymakers.
- Exceptional analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Advanced or Fluent English
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in a multinational corporation, government tax authority, or professional services firm.
- Strong understanding of Pillar Two, BEPS, and global tax policy developments.
- Familiarity with economic modeling and tax impact assessments.
- Ability to develop policy recommendations and legislative strategies.
Location & Travel:
- Location: Flexible Hybrid
- Travel: Occasional domestic and international travel required to engage with stakeholders.
