This role is based out of our Mountain View, CA or McLean, VA offices and requires full-time in-office attendance
Role Overview
ID.me is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a multi-disciplinary Platform Engineering organization, encompassing Cloud Infrastructure, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Internal Developer Tooling, and Platform Services Development. This team builds and operates the foundational platforms that power all engineering teams at ID.me—ensuring our services are reliable, secure, cost-efficient, and a joy for developers to build on.
In this role, you will guide managers and engineers working across cloud infrastructure, observability, CI/CD, runtime environments, service frameworks, and core backend platform capabilities. You will partner closely with product, security, compliance, and engineering leaders to define the strategic direction of ID.me’s platform and deliver systems that meet stringent federal standards while enabling rapid product innovation.
This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for shaping the future of ID.me’s platform architecture, operational excellence, and developer experience.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the long-term strategy for Cloud Infrastructure, SRE, and Developer Experience platforms that support all ID.me services.
- Own reliability, scalability, and performance for mission-critical platform services and infrastructure layers.
- Set the vision and roadmap for internal developer tooling, including CI/CD, local development environments, service scaffolding, and platform APIs.
- Partner with engineering, product, and security leadership to align platform investments with business needs, regulatory requirements, and growth trajectories.
- Establish and uphold SRE best practices across availability, incident response, capacity planning, and observability.
- Ensure the platform meets high availability and performance SLAs for both internal development teams and customer-facing systems.
- Drive a culture of “automate everything,” reducing operational toil and improving system resilience.
- Oversee the evolution of cloud-native infrastructure using Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, and modern orchestration frameworks.
- Accelerate migration toward scalable, reliable, and cost-effective infrastructure patterns.
- Develop secure-by-default platform capabilities that align with FedRAMP, NIST 800-63, and other regulatory standards.
- Build frameworks, SDKs, APIs, and shared services that streamline how engineers build, deploy, observe, and maintain applications.
- Improve development velocity through tooling modernization, improved abstractions, guardrails, and self-service workflows.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to understand pain points and deliver solutions that reduce friction and inconsistency across the stack.
- Mentor, coach, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers; foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and collaboration.
- Build and scale a world-class platform engineering organization with strong execution and high trust.
Advocate for platform thinking and reliability best practices across the company, including with executives and product leaders.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 8+ years of engineering experience, including 5-6 years leading engineering teams or managers.
- 5+ years of experience in SRE, cloud infrastructure engineering, or platform engineering.
- Demonstrated experience operating and scaling cloud-native infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes ecosystems, Infrastructure-as-Code, and modern DevOps/SRE practices.
- Experience building and maintaining internal platform services, tooling, frameworks, or developer portals.
- Proven track record scaling high-performing engineering teams and delivering measurable reliability and productivity improvements.
- Familiarity with distributed systems, service meshes, observability stacks, and CI/CD pipeline design.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and advocate for platform investments.
- Experience driving adoption of platform capabilities across a large engineering organization.
The annual base salary listed does not include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role.

Mountain View, CA Pay Range
$235,000 - $283,516 USD
ID.me is a full-time, in-office culture. Unless a specific job description explicitly states otherwise, all roles are on-site five days per week at one of our offices in McLean, VA; Mountain View, CA; New York City, NY; or Tampa, FL.
