Project Architect

The Project Architect is responsible for effective project design, team management, and the delivery of projects that are responsive to our clients’ needs.  These projects will vary in type, size, and complexity, but will be focused on Financial Facilities (branches and offices), and typically with dozens of concurrent projects in different phases.  Responsibilities will include fostering and developing customer relations, assisting in securing work, managing design operations, and contributing to the timely and profitable delivery of work secured. This position will also contribute to and be responsible for developing and executing short-term and long-term strategic plans focused on growth and adaptation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide team leadership and oversight through the project life cycle, including in the group effort to design, document, and execute architectural projects.
  • Coordinate and manage internal design teams and external consultants to ensure design consistency, construction quality, and project delivery.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Interface with clients, consultants, contractors, and government officials throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to client presentations and team design reviews, helping ensure the incorporation and coordination of feedback into the project.
  • Interpret and apply relevant building codes, zoning laws, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular site visits, including those in and outside the Midwest, to ensure adherence to design intent, quality standards, and specifications.
  • Support business development by contributing to proposals, project pursuits, and maintaining positive client relationships.
  • Collaborate with Project Directors to monitor budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Guide junior staff in professional development and technical growth.
  • Participate in firmwide design reviews and initiatives to enhance quality and innovation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have an appreciation for the design-build process, embracing the understanding of construction practicalities as a necessary complement to architectural design.
  • Knowledge of commercial construction and associated building codes and standards.
  • Understanding of professional service contracts and the design-build process.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including to nonprofessionals, the ideas, experience, knowledge, and concepts guiding decisions.
  • Strong understanding, curiosity, and appreciation of building systems, construction methods, and architectural detailing.
  • Strong understanding that design and construction is a team sport requiring collaboration.
  • Professional degree in Architecture (Bachelor or Master of Architecture).
  • Architectural Licensure (or on path to licensure).
  • 7+ years of professional experience in architectural practice.
  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with ProCore (project management and construction administration software) preferred.
  • LEED Accreditation or other sustainability credentials a plus.
