OT Systems Engineering Manager

Atlanta

ON.energy is building the power infrastructure that makes the AI era possible. As AI demand surges past what the grid and traditional data centers can support, ON.energy provides a new class of power technology proven at gigawatt scale and trusted by the world’s leading cloud and AI companies. Our systems are already deployed across 2.5 GW of hyper-scale campuses, validated by top U.S. national labs, and certified for grid-safe operation by major utilities. With real products in the field, we’re scaling faster than the grid can, transforming power from a bottleneck into a competitive advantage for the companies building the future.

Position Overview

We are seeking an OT Systems Engineering Manager to lead our OT Systems Engineering function supporting Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Datacenter AI UPS projects.

This role will act as the technical and people leader for Network Engineers and Deployment Engineers, with responsibility for OT network architecture, system design, customer technical alignment, and factory pre-commissioning readiness. The Deployment Manager will ensure that systems are designed, documented, tested, and delivered in a way that enables smooth site commissioning and long-term operations.

This is primarily a leadership and systems engineering role, not a day-to-day field commissioning position.

Key Responsibilities

OT Systems & Network Engineering Leadership

  • Lead and manage a team of Network Engineers and Deployment Engineers.
  • Own the OT system architecture for BESS and Datacenter AI UPS projects, including site networks, control systems, and EMS connectivity.
  • Review and approve network and OT designs to ensure scalability, security, and operability.
  • Establish engineering standards, best practices, and design guidelines for OT deployments.

Customer Technical Engagement

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers on OT, networking, and control system topics.
  • Lead customer discussions on network design, cybersecurity posture, system interfaces, and operational expectations.
  • Translate customer requirements into clear engineering deliverables and internal execution plans.
  • Support technical reviews, design workshops, and pre-deployment alignment meetings.

Deployment Engineering & Deliverables Oversight

  • Oversee the creation and quality of deployment-related deliverables, including:
    • Network architecture diagrams
    • OT system design documentation
    • IP addressing plans and communication mappings
    • Firewall and access control requirements
  • Ensure designs are aligned with commissioning, service, and operational needs.

Factory Pre-Commissioning & Readiness

  • Own factory pre-commissioning activities for control systems, EMS, and OT networks.
  • Ensure systems are configured, integrated, and validated prior to shipment or site deployment.
  • Coordinate factory acceptance testing (FAT) and pre-deployment reviews.
  • Ensure clean handoff from factory pre-commissioning to site commissioning teams.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Commissioning, Services, Product, and Software Engineering teams to ensure alignment across the project lifecycle.
  • Provide feedback from deployments and customers to inform product improvements and roadmap decisions.
  • Support continuous improvement of tools, processes, and engineering workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Networking, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in OT systems engineering, industrial networking, or control system design.
  • Prior experience in technical leadership or people management roles.
  • Strong background in industrial OT networking and control environments, ideally within energy or critical infrastructure projects.

Technical Expertise

  • OT networking design and implementation (VLANs, routing, firewalls, VPNs).
  • Industrial protocols and systems (Modbus, DNP3, OPC-UA, IEC 61850 preferred).
  • Experience with EMS, site controllers, SCADA, PLCs, and inverter/BMS interfaces.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based systems and deployment environments (hands-on expertise not required, but strong working knowledge expected).
  • Understanding of OT cybersecurity principles and best practices.

Leadership & Communication Skills

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams.
  • Strong customer-facing communication and technical presentation skills.
  • Ability to balance technical depth with delivery timelines and stakeholder expectations.
  • Comfortable making architectural decisions and providing technical direction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or similar grid-scale energy assets.
  • Exposure to datacenter power infrastructure or UPS systems.
  • Experience supporting factory acceptance testing (FAT) or pre-commissioning activities.
  • Familiarity with industry standards for critical infrastructure and OT security.

Travel Requirement

Limited travel expected (typically 10–25%), primarily for customer meetings, factory activities, or key project milestones.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
