Software Engineer, Autonomy Applications

Overland AI builds intelligent uncrewed ground systems for defense and national security. Our autonomy stack, OverDrive, is defining the state-of-the-art for perception, planning, and control of uncrewed vehicles, enabling them to traverse and operate in any terrain, regardless of roads, in any condition. OverDrive was purpose-built for the warfighter. Through our work with DARPA and the U.S. Army, we are developing the intelligent capabilities necessary to power modern ground operations, now and for decades to come.

In a little over a year, the company has been selected for or awarded eight-figures of OTAs and other contracts across multiple services and DoD customers. We have raised over $10M in funding, led by a top multi-billion dollar AUM defense tech investor.

We are looking for experts in defense, robotics, and machine learning to join our team and employ off-road autonomy technology supporting defense applications that require robust uncrewed operation.

In this role, you will:

  • Define and execute novel uses of the OverDrive autonomy stack for customer applications
  • Manage the configuration of a full autonomy stack and vehicle being deployed across a wide range of harsh field environments
  • Conduct full-system field tests to validate the performance of the system.
  • Collaborate closely with experts across disciplines to work across the entire stack to improve the reliability and performance of the system.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical background: BS in Computer Science or similar with 4+ years industry experience building and testing software. You have experience with modern C++ code and managing the builds of complex software in Linux. Ideally, you have worked with autonomous robots before including the use of sensors like lidars and cameras and have experience with the ROS 2 middleware.
  • Grit: You excel in a small-team atmosphere, taking ownership of problems and working with your colleagues to solve problems across disciplines.
  • Field-test forward: You enjoy getting your hands dirty and going off the beaten path to see the results of what you are working on.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance.
  • Ability to relocate to Seattle, WA.
