Who we are looking for

This is a key leadership role within our Operations organization, reporting directly to our Chief Operating Officer (COO). In this role, your primary responsibility is to lead the continuing successful growth and development of a group of manufacturing or engineering services member companies. This includes providing mentorship and operational advice to their leadership teams, as well as coordinating continuous improvement and initiatives within these diverse businesses. You will develop and implement repeatable, efficient, and coordinated fulfillment strategies across these businesses, facilities, geographies, technologies, and local cultures, bringing to bear your professional experience to understand the broader business operating context, assess challenges and opportunities, manage customer and partner expectations and impacts, and identify appropriate courses of action. We are growing quickly, and our growth is only expected to accelerate. We need a leader who is able to scale our capabilities rapidly depending upon the evolving needs of our current and future customers. These capabilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Depth of technical, managerial, and operational talent (people)
  • Robust, efficient, and rapid manufacturing processes
  • Intelligent application of technology, including automation, AI, and data analytics
  • Development and management of efficient external supply chains
  • The utilization of Lean, and making Lean cultural
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time to be present in the businesses

What you get to do

You will be accountable for achieving targeted growth, quality, and profitability objectives through collaboration across the organization, alignment of application of expertise and capabilities, and coaching leaders for enhanced performance. You will help drive adoption of lean methodologies, implement and refine processes for continuous improvement, and leverage analytics for critical metrics, insights and analysis.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure fulfillment, quality, cost and customer expectations are met by driving assessment and coordination of efforts across member companies, manufacturing, and engineering teams within the organization.
  • Achieve and maintain manufacturing capacity requirements on an ongoing basis, providing for build-up and adjustment of resources as needed, including facilities, equipment and people.
  • Coach, develop, and assess leadership talent internally to achieve growth and meet market needs.
  • Lead across functions to drive continuous improvement through Lean to enhance quality, workflow efficiency, predictability, and productivity in product and service fulfillment.
  • Demonstrate highly visible, engaging leadership, with affinity for the production floor and engineering shops. Lead by example, emphasizing the Principles of The Re:Build Way.
  • Contribute to the overall short- and long-range planning process and in the establishment, monitoring and assessment of our annual operating budget.
  • Develop and deploy essential analytics to track important metrics, feed analysis and generate useful insights.
  • Partner with leaders across the business to create ‘best for the enterprise’ fulfillment approaches that complement each business’s context and objectives.
  • Support leadership teams in assessing opportunities, understating constraints, securing balanced contracting, and developing responsive action plans to ensure profitable and mutually beneficial delivery on commitments.
  • Participate in the investigation and implementation of new services, manufacturing processes, and product or systems technologies to meet the organization's objectives.
  • Provide guidance to strategic projects within our business, as needed.
  • Act as an Operations functional lead for mergers and acquisition assessment and case development.
  • Where most essential, develop, implement, and optimize procedural standards and policies related to the business.
  • Help sustain safety in all workplaces.

What you bring to the team

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical or business-related subject area, or equivalent experience (MBA or MS preferred)
  • Minimum of 15 years of leadership experience with manufacturing processes and systems, working in a highly matrixed environment, leading large multidisciplinary teams is essential.
  • Expertise using “lean” principles and a track record of success in developing significant improvements in cost management, inventory management, quality, and delivery.
  • Ability to marshal resources to get things done, orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal, and use resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Proven skills partnering across businesses and a collaborative approach within and across organizational boundaries.
  • Proven capability to encourage, mentor, and cultivate team members to achieve improved results.
  • Exhibits a high degree of technical credibility and communicates highly technical information in a simplistic and easily understandable way.
  • Analytical skills to draw appropriate conclusions from data, anticipating second and third order effects when making recommendations.
  • Ability to isolate critical factors, summarize complex information and communicate effectively at executive levels.
  • The ideal candidate will be located in or willing to relocate to the Midwest United States.
