As the Director, Product Design, you will lead and scale ZIP’s Product Design team, driving end-to-end user experiences across ZIP’s consumer-facing products and services, spanning mobile, web, in-store, and customer support interactions. Your role will focus on building a best-in-class design culture, shaping the design strategy, and ensuring user-centered design principles are embedded in every aspect of ZIP’s product ecosystem.

  • Lead and develop the vision, strategy, and execution of ZIP’s consumer product design across mobile, web, in-store, and customer support channels, ensuring a cohesive and world-class experience.
  • Define and drive ZIP’s design system, ensuring consistency, scalability, and accessibility across all product experiences.
  • Champion human-centered design principles, ensuring every ZIP product is intuitive, engaging, and aligned with customer needs and business objectives.
  • Manage and grow a high-performing design team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and customer obsession.
  • Influence product strategy by incorporating user research, behavioral analytics, and data insights into the design process.
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, and Marketing to ensure a seamless cross-functional approach to experience design.
  • Optimize the end-to-end customer journey, from onboarding and engagement to retention, ensuring ZIP delivers frictionless and delightful interactions.
  • Advocate for accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring all ZIP products meet industry standards and provide equitable experiences.
  • Evolve and implement UX best practices, usability testing frameworks, and iterative design methodologies to enhance design decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Compliance and Legal teams to ensure customer-facing experiences meet regulatory and security requirements.
  • Present to senior executives and stakeholders, articulating the value of design and demonstrating how it drives business impact.

What you’ll bring to the team 

  • Education & Training:
      • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Visual Communication, or a related field. A graduate degree is a plus.
      • Completion of a recognized training program in UX/UI, Human-Centered Design, or Design Leadership is preferred.
    Experience:
      • 12+ years of experience in Product Design, UX/UI, or Human-Centered Design, with at least 5 years leading and scaling design teams.
      • Proven experience leading large-scale consumer-facing digital experiences in fintech, e-commerce, or other high-growth industries.
      • Demonstrated ability to create cohesive and scalable cross-platform design systems.
      • Strong track record of driving business outcomes through design, including improvements in conversion rates, user engagement, and retention.
      • Experience working in regulated industries, ensuring compliance and security while maintaining design excellence.
      • Experience as a Design Lead for a Mobile APP with a 1M+ user base.
      • Experience designing multi-product applications & experiences.
    Leadership:
      • A visionary design leader with the ability to inspire and grow a world-class design team.
      • Ability to enhance design practices within the team through processes like critiques and design sprints to foster a culture of excellence.
      • Strong ability to align stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Business Leadership to ensure a seamless customer experience.
      • Ability to advocate for design at the executive level, influencing strategic direction and investment in UX.
    Skills & Expertise:
      • Expertise in UX/UI design, interaction design, and visual design principles.
      • Deep understanding of design thinking, user research methodologies, and usability testing.
      • Proficiency in Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, and other industry-standard design tools.
      • Strong analytical skills, leveraging qualitative and quantitative research to inform design decisions.
      • Familiarity with A/B testing, conversion optimization, and behavioral analytics to drive design impact.
      • Experience with accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
    Mindset:
      • Customer-obsessed, always striving to create seamless and intuitive experiences.

Zip is committed to a straightforward and transparent pay structure. The actual base salary will be determined by various individualized factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, location, internal equity, as well as other objective business considerations.

The annual base Pay Range for this position is $217,000 - $250,000. This range reflects our US national compensation (USN). Additional premium percentages may apply based on our tiered premium strategy. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. If hired, employees will be in an 'at-will position' and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
