Position Overview:
Lake Companies is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Scrum Master to join our Product and Development team. As a Scrum Master, you will play a critical role in driving the adoption and successful implementation of Agile principles and the Scrum framework. You will be a servant leader, coach, and facilitator, working closely with the team, the Product Owner, and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality products. You will be a key player in our transformation, helping us to shorten development cycles, accelerate innovation, modernize our technology stack, and establish stronger customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Facilitate Scrum Events: Lead and facilitate all Scrum events, including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives, ensuring they are productive, time-boxed, focused on achieving the Sprint Goal, and encourage active participation. 
  • Coach and Mentor: Coach and mentor the development team and the Product Owner on Agile principles, Scrum practices, and self-organization. Help the team embrace iterative development, continuous feedback, and rapid experimentation. Serve as a servant leader, guiding the team towards high performance and continuous improvement. 
  • Remove Impediments: Identify and proactively remove impediments that hinder the team's progress, escalating issues as needed. Effectively represent the team's needs to management and advocate for resources and support. 
  • Foster Collaboration: Promote collaboration and communication within the team and especially between the team and stakeholders including Sales, Marketing, Support and our Customers. Facilitate collaboration between Product Management, Business stakeholders, Development, and Operations teams. 
  • Promote Continuous Improvement: Encourage and facilitate continuous improvement through retrospectives and other feedback mechanisms. Help the team use data and customer feedback to make decisions and improve processes. Drive the adoption of a culture of continuous learning and experimentation. 
  • Collaborate with the Product Owner: Work closely with the Product Owner to ensure the Product Backlog is well-defined, prioritized, and aligned with the overall product vision and customer needs. Support the Product Owner in techniques for defining epics, MVPs, and prioritizing features using methods like Weighted Shortest Job First (WSJF). 
  • Drive Technical Excellence: Champion the adoption of Test-Driven Development (TDD), automated testing, and guide the team in defining comprehensive test sets for end-to-end testing. Promote improvements in the build process, including the implementation of static code analysis, security testing and CI/CD pipelines to enable faster and more frequent releases. Help modernize the way software is deployed and released. 
  • Balance Development Priorities: Help the team balance new feature development, new architecture initiatives, and the reduction of technical debt. 
  • Organize the Backlog: Organize the backlog and assist the Product Owner and developers in navigating and understanding it. Help sequence work to meet quarterly goals. 
  • Enable Data-Driven Decision Making: Help define and implement a monitoring system to track feature usage and determine their value. Aggregate quantitative and qualitative feedback to enable the Product Management team to make informed pivot-or-persevere decisions. 
  • Support Team Capacity and Growth: Work with the team and stakeholders to establish and maintain healthy boundaries that protect the team's capacity and focus. Facilitate discussions around workload and priorities to ensure the team is set up for success. Challenge the team to continuously improve their processes, skills, and seek ways to increase their overall effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of experience in agile project management, with a proven track record as a Scrum Master.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency with agile tools like Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
    • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript) for automation tasks.
    • Proven ability to train and coach teams new to Agile methodologies.
    • Strong understanding of Agile metrics and experience using them to measure team performance.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
    • Demonstrated experience driving technical improvements in software development processes, such as TDD, CI/CD, automated testing, and code quality initiatives.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certification as a Scrum Master (CSM, PSM) or in Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with cloud-based environments, particularly AWS.
  • Knowledge of Lake Companies' products (Shop-Trak, Doc-Trak, Fact-Trak).
  • Manufacturing industry experience or familiarity with manufacturing workflows.
  • Experience with ERP systems, especially Infor CloudSuite Industrial (SyteLine).
