This position is ideally hybrid based out of our Littleton, CO office but can also be remotely based working in MST and is budgeted for $55,000-$67,000. We are unable to offer work sponsorship for this role. 

As a Tax Agent, you'll be the go-to expert for managing payroll and sales-related taxes for clients across all 50 states, ensuring compliance with ever-changing tax regulations. In this role, you’ll handle complex tax matters, from managing client tax notices and abatement requests to setting up accurate tax accounts during onboarding. You'll also play a pivotal role in training junior specialists, researching and resolving tax issues, and delivering exceptional customer service. If you're skilled in state employment and sales tax regulations and can balance independence with collaboration to meet strict deadlines, this role is a perfect fit to showcase and expand your expertise.

Your impact:

Tax Filing & Processing: 

  • Proficient in filing and processing payroll and sales-related business taxes across all 50 states. 

Tax Notice Research & Resolution: 

  • Research tax notices and liaise with appropriate tax agencies for clarification and resolution. 
  • Lead efforts to abate tax notices and follow up on abatement requests. 
  • Process amended or missing returns/payments  
  • Identify and comprehend the root causes of tax notices, ensuring future compliance and accuracy. 

New Client Onboarding: 

  • Assist with onboarding new clients by gathering, verifying, and setting up tax rates and tax IDs, ensuring accuracy before running their first payroll. 
  • Serve as the first point of contact for new clients regarding business tax matters. 

New Tax Specialist Training: 

  • Assist in the training and development of new tax specialists, sharing best practices and knowledge. 

Research & Compliance: 

  • Research state and local employment and sales tax laws to ensure clients receive accurate and up-to-date information. 
  • Stay informed on the latest tax laws and regulations to maintain best practices in tax processing. 
  • Continuously improve knowledge and processes regarding tax filings, compliance, and best practices. 

Customer Service: 

  • Ensure timely responses to all client inquiries, maintaining clear and professional communication to address tax-related questions and concerns promptly. 

About you:

  • In-depth knowledge of state employment tax, sales tax, and federal/state tax laws, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a business context. 
  • Previous experience in a tax-related field, with a strong understanding of tax filing processes and resolving tax notices. 
  • Proven experience in customer service, with the ability to effectively communicate and build strong relationships with clients. 
  • Ability to handle sensitive client information with a high level of confidentiality and discretion. 
  • Strong ability to identify issues and resolve problems in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring compliance and accuracy. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey tax-related information to clients and team members. 
  • Proficient in using computers and software, including tax software, payroll systems, and other relevant platforms. 
  • Keen attention to detail when processing tax information, reviewing reports, and ensuring accuracy in all tasks. 
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and self-start projects, ensuring deadlines are met without supervision. 
  • Strong team player who works well in a collaborative environment and contributes to the success of the team.
