LINUX Engineer

Copper River Cyber Solutions is seeking a LINUX Engineer to join our team in support of a new contract at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This position will be performed remotely with the occasional need for an onsite meeting in the Washington D.C. area.

The ideal candidate will be a IT technology integrator and developer that utilizes Linux hardware, virtual and cloud-based infrastructures, containerization and hardware provisioning of small form factor PCs for in-house quick reaction efforts. The candidate will work closely with the customer and other team members to continually evolve and integrate best practices to infrastructure provisioning, monitoring and deployment. The candidate will leverage a deep understanding of various operating systems, Linux networking protocols, and security practices in order to deliver complex and unique solutions to enable mission. Applicants are expected to already have a basic understanding of Linux, Linux networking technologies, Linux routing, and a willingness and ability to troubleshoot problems.

 

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Installation, configuration, and upkeep of Linux operating systems and associated software.
  • Vigilant monitoring of system performance, preemptively identifying and addressing issues to uphold high availability and efficiency.
  • Regular implementation of system updates, patches, and upgrades to uphold security protocols and system stability.
  • Oversight of user accounts, permissions, and access levels to safeguard data integrity and security.
  • Establishment and maintenance of comprehensive backup and recovery protocols to minimize downtime and fortify data protection.
  • Active monitoring and analysis of system logs and events to detect and mitigate potential security threats.
  • Swift resolution of hardware and software malfunctions, including server and network connectivity issues.
  • Collaborative efforts with the IT team to conceptualize and implement system improvements and optimizations.
  • Development and upkeep of system documentation, including configuration guides, protocols, and policies.
  • Keeping abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices pertinent to Linux system administration.
  • Working with end-users
  • Participate in internal planning and reporting processes
  • Work with Project Team Leads
  • Ensure standards are followed as directed by Project Team Leads
  • Participate in special projects as required

Requirements:

  • Clearance:
    • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
  • Education:
    • BS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or demonstrated equivalent experience

 

  • Experience:
    • Minimum Requirements:
    • Minimum of 9 years of relevant experience
    • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with tight deadlines, evolving priorities, and the potential to conduct operational support in adverse working environments
    • Knowledge of TCP/IP fundamentals (e.g. OSI model and IP subnetting basics) and Linux routing to include firewall, NAT and policy-based routing
    • Experience using Linux, including command line
    • Experience with Cyber Security 
    • Experience implementing and deploying infrastructure end-to-end infrastructure and systems from scratch.
    • Candidates will have in-depth expertise in Linux, Linux networking and routing protocols, logging and troubleshooting
    • Experience troubleshooting technical problems related to networking and virtualization technologies
    • Familiarization with virtualization and containerization techniques and technologies
    • Working knowledge of network routing (Layers 2 and 3), network security appliances, VPNs and encryption fundamentals (e.g. OpenVPN, Wireguard, OpenSSL, asymmetric cryptography)
    • Ability to independently research innovative solutions in-house to address unique requirements
    • Experience with scripting or programming languages (e.g. Bash, Python, JavaScript) to enable automation
    • Experience creating bootable system images

    • Cyber Security knowledge and experience a plus
    • Cloud knowledge and experience a plus
    • SharePoint knowledge and experience a plus
    • Microsoft 365 knowledge and experience a plus

Position Pay Range

$130,000 - $165,000 USD
