We’re looking for an Engineering Manager having expertise in Full Stack development to lead and grow one of our dynamic teams in Personalized Offers, Digital Recommenders, and Measurement.
Every week, dunnhumby analyses 17+ billion transactions from 200+ million customers, delivering 6+ billion personalized recommendations. Our team has built state-of-the-art Digital Recommenders and Personalized Offers for the grocery retail sector powered by years of machine learning expertise and deep retail knowledge. We’re constantly innovating, developing new use cases like lift prediction and monetization, enhancing algorithms such as acquisition science and Improving architecture for cost, scalability, and robustness We also invest heavily in measurement frameworks across channels—online, in-store, email, programmatic—to help retailers and advertisers understand campaign impact.

What you will be doing in the role
Hands-on Technical Leadership
- Actively contribute production-quality code and own critical components while guiding the squad to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.
- Lead by example in system design, implementation, refactoring, and code reviews.
- Own technical design and architectural decisions for cloud-native, big-data, AI-enabled systems.
- Coach engineers on modern development practices, including GenAI-driven approaches.
Delivery Ownership & Agile Execution
- Be accountable for end-to-end software delivery—from story writing and design through coding, testing, release, and production support.
- Contribute 40–60% coding time (up to 80% for mature squads).
- Co-own and drive squad OKRs with product and design counterparts.
- Build and execute delivery plans, communicate progress, and manage trade-offs using Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).
- Remove blockers, secure resources, and collaborate with partner teams (Infrastructure, Data Science, Data Engineering).
Quality, Security & Technical Excellence
- Define and track quality, reliability, and operational metrics.
- Champion automated testing, strong test strategies, and embedded quality practices.
- Embed non-functional requirements—performance, reliability, security, observability, and cost efficiency—into design and implementation.
- Continuously raise the technical bar through best practices and cross-team collaboration.
People Leadership & Growth
- Manage engineers within the squad—set expectations, support career development, and conduct performance and salary reviews.
- Partner with senior leadership on hiring, onboarding, and scaling the squad.
- Build strong relationships with product, design, commercial, and client teams.
- Suggest and lead sub-domain level engineering initiatives.
What are we looking for
- Strong background as a technology lead/ principal architect, with hands-on experience in modern software development.
- Hands on experience on Frontend and Backend development
- Proven ability to stay deeply technical while leading a squad.
- Experience designing and building cloud-native, scalable, and data-intensive systems.
- Solid understanding of Agile delivery, engineering metrics, and quality-driven development.
- Comfortable balancing coding, technical leadership, and people responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence across teams.
