Senior Labor & Employment Legal Counsel

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our legal team as a Legal Counsel - Labor & Employment. As a key member of our legal team, you will be responsible for providing legal support and advice on investment-related matters to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. You will work closely with various internal stakeholders, including investment managers, finance, and senior executives, to facilitate and guide investment transactions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Litigate: Independently handle all aspects of labor and employment litigation, including:
    • Conducting legal research and writing legal briefs
    • Preparing for and attending depositions, mediations, and court hearings
    • Developing and presenting case strategies
    • Negotiating settlements and managing trials
  • Investigate and Resolve Employee Relations Issues: Independently investigate and resolve employee complaints involving:
    • Discrimination and harassment
    • Wage and hour violations
    • Wrongful termination
    • Family and medical leave violations
    • Disability accommodations
    • Workplace safety concerns
  • Provide Legal Advice and Counsel: Independently provide legal advice and counsel to company management and HR on a wide range of labor and employment matters, including:
    • Compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations
    • Development and implementation of company policies and procedures
    • Employee discipline and termination decisions
    • Reductions in force (RIFs) and workforce restructuring
    • Unionization efforts and collective bargaining agreements
  • Collaboration and Support:
    • Partner with HR and other departments to ensure compliance with labor and employment laws and best practices.
    • Stay up-to-date on legal developments and emerging trends in labor and employment law.
    • Train and educate company management and employees on their rights and responsibilities under labor laws.
    • Work collaboratively with outside counsel on complex matters when necessary.
    • Manage and oversee legal fees associated with labor and employment matters.
    • Draft, review, and negotiate employment contracts, severance agreements, and other legal documents.

Required Qualifications: 

  • A Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent degree from a reputable law school.
  • Admission to the California or New York bar is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of experience specifically within Labor & Employment.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with 6+ years of experience specifically within Labor & Employment to be considered for a Manager
  • Experience within the Manufacturing Industry - you will need to be able to handle a lot of employees within a manufacturing plant
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts effectively and influence key stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, with a high level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.

 

 

Base pay is one part of our total compensation package at Gotion, and is determined within a range. This provides you with the opportunity to progress as you grow and advance your career at Gotion. The base pay range for this role is shown below, and will depend on your skills, qualifications, experiences, and location.

Expected Pay Range

$100,000 - $160,000 USD
