The LA28 organizing committee is an independent, non-profit organization that is privately funded and governed by a board of directors.

Director, Engineering
The Games Planning & Delivery group aims to deliver the most seamless, innovative, and engaging Games experience ever for all athletes, fans, partners, and the community. The Games Planning & Delivery team is currently organized in four key areas including Venue Infrastructure, Venue Management, Revenue & Commercial, and Games Operations, but will expand to over 30 functional areas by Games time.
The Venue Infrastructure team is responsible for delivering the competition and non-competition venues fit-for-purpose for the preparation and staging of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This department is responsible for managing the design, development, construction, maintenance and removal of all Games infrastructure in existing and fully temporary venues.
Reporting to the VP, Venue Infrastructure, the Director of Engineering will be responsible for supporting the creation, planning and execution of the Engineering sub-function – including planning and delivery of all engineering workstreams as well as the central services and cross-functional integration to support all areas of venue infrastructure. To progress this work, this role will liaise between internal departments, external stakeholders, partner entities, and consultants to develop and refine the technical standards, engineering guides, and venue design books to deliver the infrastructure for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Hire, train, motivate, and evaluate department staff
- Directly supervise multiple technical sub-functions including discipline-specific engineering leads. Lead a diverse team of internal LA28 and external contracted engineering staff
- Develop and adhere to departmental budget with clear steps to implement, monitor, and appropriately measure deliverables
- Develop a clear growth plan for the department from present through Games time
Technical Strategy and Delivery
- Oversee the planning and delivery of technical milestones, including engineering strategy, technical venue design books, and internal technical policies and guidelines
- Develop and enforce infrastructure technical standards, ensuring designs are safe, efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with LA28 sustainability priorities
- Proactively identify and address technical risks and incorporate into development plans and schedules
- Coordinate development of technical works with related infrastructure functional areas, such as Energy, Broadcast, Technology, and Transport to ensure a consistent approach to delivery requirements
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Establish close working relationships with key functional areas (especially Event Venue Management, Hospitality & Ticketing, Games Operations, etc.) to ensure the venue development process aligns with cross-functional planning timelines and objectives
- Work with the IOC and IPC to understand and integrate all requirements, get strategic buy-in, and expedite approval processes where necessary
- Translate internal technical specifications for tender and contractual documents with procurement, finance, and legal teams
- Closely align with the infrastructure program management sub-function to ensure coordinated planning for all delivery milestones and deliverables
Position Requirements:
Background & Qualifications:
- Minimum five years of experience leading engineering teams in development and delivery of permanent infrastructure, temporary infrastructure, and/or overlay work. Experience in the sport or live event industry a plus
- Minimum ten years of engineering experience in design, analysis, project development, and/or delivery in one or more engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical, or related)
- Familiarity with relevant industry groups, codes, and standards, including but not limited to: IBC/CBC, NEC/NFPA 70, ASHRAE, ANSI, ASME, ASCE
- Familiarity with relevant local, state, and federal laws, including but not limited to: Clean Water Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, California Coastal Act
- Strong knowledge of engineering tools and software (Revit, AutoCAD, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of fundamental project management concepts (scope, schedule, budget)
- Experience with hiring and managing contract workforce, including professional services engineering firms, general contractors, and technical consultants

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- In-office in our Los Angeles HQ. Some flexibility to working in partner offices
- Some travel to venues for inspections and collaboration may be required
Education:
- Required - Accredited bachelor’s degree in civil, electrical, mechanical, or related engineering disciplines
- Desired - Professional Engineering licensure

The annual base salary range for this position is $150,000.00 - 190,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
