Design Release Engineer – EV Charging

Who we are looking for:
Slate is looking for an energetic, organized, experienced Design Release Engineer – EV Charging - to join our growing team. The DRE will lead engineering and suppliers in the Electric Vehicle Charging space supporting the content listed in the Program Description Letter. This Engineer will report to the Energy Storage Senior Manager and will be responsible for driving the development of charging system components for the Slate battery electric vehicles. The engineer will be challenged to develop unique solutions for various applications from design to launch. This candidate will have responsibility to coordinate and lead all aspects of suppliers, external resources and collaborate across the EV component areas as needed to optimize application solutions.
What you get to do:
- Design, develop, release, and continually improve Component Technical Specifications for Electric Vehicle charging inlet assemblies, covering both high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) wiring, while developing functional requirements for each system and component related to the charging architecture.
- Collaborate with internal functions, the design studio, engineering teams, purchasing, manufacturing, interfacing teams, and suppliers to create technical requirements for systems and components and evaluate electrical system engineering alternatives by considering attributes such as quality, safety, cost, weight, packaging, and functional analysis.
- Jointly identify and recommend the optimal solution that balances quality, cost, weight, and function, while leading or supporting the design, development, release, and certification of systems and components using product development tools such as CAE, CAD, BOM, Drawing Release, Software Release, DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, Attribute Validation, PPAP, Vehicle Testing, Component Testing, and Certification Reporting to meet all regulatory requirements.
- Lead design change requests, support change control, and participate in design reviews to ensure timing, quality, and cost targets.
- Investigate production warranty issues and assembly plant returns/failures with suppliers to ensure containment and eliminate early warranty problems, developing countermeasures, implementing containment, corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence through effective problem-solving.
What you bring to the team:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent from an ABET accredited program. Master’s degree in engineering preferred.
- 3+ years of Design Release Engineering in EV charging.
- Experience and knowledge of charging systems, DC, AC systems and conversion and vehicle level safety development process.
- Excellent communication, ability to present to leadership, team building and relationship building skills.
- Ability to lead teams and Tier 1 suppliers and integrate and drive technical tradeoffs and optimized solutions with attention to detail, with all functions as needed.
- Direct working experience with CCS, J1772, NACS charging architecture, onboard charging modules and interoperability in the automotive space.
