Systems Engineer (Linux)
The Swift Group is seeking an experienced Senior Linux Systems Engineer with a minimum of 11+ years of relevant experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux systems, including Red Hat and its derivatives, and will provide Linux administration and infrastructure support in a large enterprise environment. This role requires extensive experience with system engineering, software development, and operations and maintenance (O&M) support.
This position is located in the Herndon, VA area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform systems engineering and software development across multiple large enterprise server environments, including Linux, Red Hat, and CentOS.
- Provide technical guidance on software engineering techniques and automated support tools.
- Analyze functional business applications and design specifications for functional activities.
- Prepare required documentation, including program-level and user-level materials.
- Assist in establishing standards for information systems procedures and best practices.
- Perform technical evaluations and analysis of system infrastructure.
- Support the customer in the development and maintenance of systems baseline.
- Assess server loads and collaborate with technical leads to develop tuning recommendations.
- Provide additional duties as assigned to support operational objectives.
- Provide on-call pager/phone duty support as part of operational responsibilities.
- Complete day-to-day Operations & Maintenance (O&M) tasks.
- Perform operating system software updates, upgrades, and patches to maintain system health and security.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 11 years' experience in Linux systems engineering and administration.
- Extensive experience with Linux distributions, including Red Hat (RHEL), CentOS, and RockyOS.
- Proficiency in shell scripting and the ability to manipulate the Linux command line effectively.
- Strong experience in Linux administration and engineering infrastructure support.
- Ability to provide technical guidance and establish standards for information systems procedures.
- Experience performing technical evaluations, software development, and troubleshooting.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills to support program-level requirements.
- US Citizenship and an active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance required
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, Ruby, Bash, and PHP.
- Hands-on experience with cloud computing platforms, including:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS), CloudFormation, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with configuration management tools, including:
- Ansible, Puppet Manifests, and Foreman.
- Familiarity with cloud computing models, including PaaS, IaaS, and SaaS.
- Experience working with Container-as-a-Service (CaaS) solutions, such as:
- Kubernetes and OpenShift.
- Strong understanding of LAMP stack technologies.

Pay Range: $49,996.80 - $290,004.00
Pay ranges are a general guideline and not intended as a guaranteed and/or implied final compensation or salary for this job opening. Determination of official compensation or salary relies on several different factors including, but not limited to: level of position, complexity of job responsibilities, geographic location, work experience, education, certifications, Federal Government contract labor categories, and contract wage rates.
