A Snapshot

As the Senior Design Manager – Design Governance, you will report to the Technical Design Manager and work closely with the other Design Managers to manage the QA process and wider AirTrunk and Customer alignment for each project design.  

The ever-changing hyperscale industry introduces Customer change and the appropriate AirTrunk design response.  As the source of these changes emanate from outside Japan it is necessary to introduce a very rigorous and thorough identification and checking process to ensure the design tracks the reference documents from start to finish.  

AirTrunk generates reference designs and performance specifications internally but relies on consultants and then GC to take these designs to completion.  There are many handovers and interfaces during the design lifecycle.  As Senior Design Manager – Design Governance you will require a thorough and diligent approach to recording and documenting, together with the ability to converse on technical matters and present outcomes.  

Your success will be understanding the dynamic needs of our overseas Customers, transposing them into the Japan design process and then ensuring they are resolved and delivered successfully. 

Your Day to Day 

• Manage and collate all checks at each design milestone against: 
• Customer Specification 
• RFQ/Contract 
• Site Selection Due Diligence
• AirTrunk BOD 
• AirTrunk TR  
• Document and present the review summaries.   
• Manage Peer Review Consultants. 
• Coordinate the update and management of Japan localization of design documents.
• Manage updates to AT Reference Document and Policies. 
• Manage the issuing and document control of the design. 
• Oversee the ACS and ME design process to align with E2E RACI process.  

Requirements:   

• 10+ years of experience in the consultant or construction industry on major projects, preferably with overseas customers.  
• Fluent in English and Japanese (min N1 level).  
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably mechanical or electrical.  It is necessary that you understand the design concepts and can put them into context and understand the implications.  
• Project lifecycle experience within the Japanese construction industry is a must.  
• Incredibly flexible and forward-thinking as you have to be ready for a continuous change of directions.   
• Willing to make decisions and be accountable for them.  
• Excel at communication; you can deliver effective presentations on data centre design to customers, peers and management.  
• Good leadership acumen to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
