Description:
This position is for a Tooling Design Engineer supporting the company's AutoAir Aftermarket Operations. The role will be responsible for day-to-day tooling design and development support for production tooling aids. The focus is on designing and developing tools, tooling, gauges, and tooling production aids to support new and existing production processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop new tools, tooling, gauging, and other tooling aids to support production operations.
- Create designs and drawings using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Analize tooling performance and adjust designs accordingly to improve performance.
- Design tooling for CNC machining, turning, and additive manufacturing methods.
- Review technical manufacturing specifications to determine tooling requirements.
- Design for ergonomics when appropriate
- Collaborate with team members to develop design solutions for production support.
- Evaluate tooling/gauge/aid performance to determine for-use worthiness.
- Investigates and troubleshoots process issues.
- Provides technical support to operations.
- Consult with outside engineering entities when required to resolve issues.
- Coordinates multiple design projects.
- Provide technical support and guidance to internal and external vendors during tooling fabrication.
- Analyze process data in support of continuous improvement.
Basic Qualifications:
- A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of tooling design experience
- 10 years of experience using 3D modeling CAD software
- Siemens NX / Teamcenter Experience
- Experience working with CAD assemblies.
- Good understanding of Engineering Drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
- Strong analytical skills using appropriate logic and reasoning for design solutions.
- Experience conducting design reviews.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong creativity and innovation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft O365 suite.
- U.S. citizenship is required for this position; only U.S. citizens are authorized to access and handle sensitive data required to support our government and military programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Aerospace Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) experience
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, experience with Kaizen events or experience with a continuous improvement program (6s, etc.).
- Experience with composite materials
