Senior Manager, Employee Relations

About the Role and Team 

Amplitude’s People & Places team is responsible for ensuring we win together as an organization. We focus on creating an environment where Ampliteers can do the best work of their lives, and the Senior Employee Relations Manager role is critical to this mission.  Reporting to the VP of Employment Law, People Business Partners and L&D, this position will be responsible for building and developing our global ER processes and strategy and working cross functionally across the People Team to drive proactive improvements of programs that impact our employees. In this role, you will be a key partner to the business and provide a broad range of employee relations services, including owning the processes and consultations with leaders and People Business Partners on performance improvement and reorganization matters, conflict resolution, complaint investigation, severance, and policies. You will interact with all levels of leadership regarding investigations, discipline, performance management, terminations, and negotiated separations. You will work with a great deal of independent discretion in decision-making and execution of responsibilities.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build and develop the company’s global ER program, including developing strategies, and scalable resources. 
  • Manage all aspects of ER cases, including conducting interviews, preparing reports, and owning investigation outcomes and closeout; tracking and preparing status updates and coordinating input from multiple stakeholders; assessing risks in partnership with the PBP and employment counsel; and advising on and overseeing disciplinary and remediation actions.
  • Assist with conflict resolution including facilitating and/or mediating difficult workplace issues.
  • Design policy content and counsel employees, managers, and the People Team on ER best practices, helping to identify and build strategies to enhance ER capabilities.
  • Partner with L&D to design and deliver enablement content to educate leaders on ER best practices.
  • Develop systems for collecting and tracking data related to ER cases.  Develop reporting capabilities to accurately report on ER metrics and deliver insights to business leaders.
  • Work closely with PBPs to design performance management practices, policies and templates that will drive consistency across the organization. 
  • Root cause analysis and recommendations regarding policy changes, development, interpretation, and precedent setting problem resolution.
  • Maintain knowledge of, interpret, and provide guidance to managers and the People Team on ER practices that implicate global employment laws.

What You Bring:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of corporate employee relations experience and/or employment legal. 
  • A practical approach to employee relations that enables you to partner with the business to balance risk with business needs.
  • The ability to partner with a small People Team and to lean in and drive broader projects that impact the Company. 
  • Expertise in consultation, investigations, guidance, policy development, and coaching to senior leaders to address sensitive and/or difficult employee behavior and performance concerns.
  • Proven ability to establish influential partnerships working with peers, senior leaders, and across organizational lines to provide effective and strategic ER counsel.
  • Prior experience in designing/implementing HR compliance and ER processes, policies, and systems that work at scale.
  • Experience developing and delivering enablement content.
  • Fluency in data collection, integrity, reporting, and developing insights for business leaders.
  • Experience scaling processes and programs in high-growth global technology companies and global environments.
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, prioritize conflicting demands, and execute initiatives with a bias towards actions and solutions.
  • Proven track record of consultative HR experience and working autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous situations.
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills, attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Adaptability to a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to travel to HQ in San Francisco at least two times per year, or as needed to meet business demands.

This role is eligible for equity, benefits and other forms of compensation.

Based on Colorado law, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in Colorado. Colorado range: $168,000 - $252,000 total target cash (inclusive of bonus or commission)

Based on legislation in New York City, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in New York City. New York City salary range: $186,000 - $279,000 total target cash (inclusive of bonus or commission)

Based on legislation in California, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in San Francisco Bay Area of California. Salary range: 186,000 - $279,000 total target cash (inclusive of bonus or commission)

Based on legislation in California, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in California outside of the San Francisco Bay Area. California salary range: $168,000 - $252,000 total target cash (inclusive of bonus or commission)

Based on legislation in Washington state, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in Washington state. Washington salary range: $168,000 - $252,000  total target cash (inclusive of bonus or commission)

Based on legislation in Washington state, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in Washington only: unlimited PTO, 10 to 13 holidays annually (will vary), medical dental and vision PPO and CDHP plans. Finally, a company sponsored 401(k) retirement plan.
