Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Coho Technology Solutions is committed to delivering expert technical and maintenance support to our government and defense partners. We are currently seeking a highly skilled Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic (HMEM) to join our team in direct support of the U.S. Navy at China Lake, California.
Position Summary:
The HMEM will perform repairs, overhauls, and rebuilds on complex heavy mobile equipment including construction, earth-moving, firefighting, aircraft refueling, and other specialized industrial vehicles. This role demands technical expertise, hands-on mechanical skill, and the ability to operate diagnostic tools and specialized equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Perform major and minor repairs, overhauls, and system rebuilds on a wide range of heavy mobile equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair systems including engines/motors, cooling, hydraulics, fuel, steering, and brakes.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic tools to assess and resolve mechanical defects and performance issues.
- Interpret and apply information from service and parts manuals, schematics, and technical bulletins.
- Maintain, operate, and repair tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned work.
- Ensure all maintenance and repairs meet technical, safety, and operational standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of heavy vehicle systems and components.
- Skilled in diagnosing mechanical issues using advanced electronic and mechanical testing equipment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals and schematics.
- Ability to overhaul engines with 12 cylinders and 1000 horsepower, large multi-engine systems, and integrated hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
- Experience in overhauling complex transmissions and integrated braking/steering systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills utilizing sight, sound, smell, touch, and instrumentation.
- Familiarity with alternate fuel systems and their operational principles.
- Valid California “C” driver’s license.
- Qualified to operate aerial work platforms and material handling equipment.
Preferred Attributes:
- Prior experience supporting military or government equipment maintenance programs.
- Strong safety and compliance mindset.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Position Pay Range
$38.72 - $38.72 USD
