About the Position 

The Lead Energy Market Analyst, part of the Americas – Data and Insights team, will support Energy Exemplar’s growth in North America by identifying customer use cases, shaping go-to-market strategies, and providing thought leadership. Acting as a subject matter expert, they will understand customer challenges, propose solutions and develop products using Energy Exemplar tools and dataset. 

 

The role is heavily focused on modelling, requiring expertise in energy market fundamentals. The analyst will build and oversee production of energy market models using PLEXOS. Candidates should have strong modelling skills, fundamental nodal modelling experience, customer engagement abilities, and a proactive, adaptable mindset. 

  • Hands on modeling experience in several ISOs (eg ERCOT)  
  • Experience with nodal power flow modeling and ability to discuss nodal concept such as LMPs, congestion, contingencies, LODF, etc. 
  • Self-Starter and ability to work independently  
  • 7+ years of experience with direct Energy Modeling and Power Market Analysis  
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and learn new techniques 
  • Experience in creating and analyzing energy data sets for power models  
  • Production cost market modeling knowledge and experience 
  • Experience with nodal market modeling is required 
  • Experience working at a market operator, project developer, trading firm, consultancy or at a utility in planning, transmission or commercial operations would be an asset 
  • Knowledge of one or more energy economic modeling tools: PLEXOS, Aurora, PROMOD, PSO, MarketAnalytics and/or PROSYM 
  • Strong organizational skills  
  • Expert skills using Excel, Power BI and similar tools 
  • Experience with Python a plus.

  • Foundational knowledge of energy markets & associated economics   
  • Ability to communicate complex subject matter in an easy-to-understand manner   
  • Strong commercial awareness   
  • Top-down approach to problem solving – ability to see the big picture   
  • Strong interpersonal presence and skills - demonstrated ability to build rapport   
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills   
  • Strong listening and presentation skills   
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively   
  • Self-driven, results-orientated with a positive outlook and a focus on quality   
  • Thorough knowledge of standard Microsoft programs – Word, Excel, PowerPoint   
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities   
  • Sense of urgency for goal achievement   
  • Strong desire for personal and career advancement 
  • Four-year degree in Economics (preferred), Electric Engineering (Power Systems preferred), or Mathematics  
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. is preferred 
  • Prior experience in building fundamental energy market models   
  • Knowledge of PLEXOS or other mathematically based optimization tools
