Maintenance Supervisor

Job Summary: 

Responsible for directly performing and managing subordinates in highly diversified duties including the installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and production maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the iHerb’s business goals and objectives. 

 

Job Expectations:

  • Manage preventative maintenance program(s)

  • Troubleshoot and resolve sort issues; Communicate and coordinate with off-site support team

  • Perform daily inspection, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical equipment to ensure uninterrupted business production

  • Monitor operation, perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot other DC mechanical and electrical equipment and systems

  • Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the distribution facility’s equipment

  • Provide emergency/unscheduled after-hours repairs of production equipment during and after production

  • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines 

  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to ensure proper installation and perform required maintenance and service 

  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments

  • Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions

  • Well-developed knowledge of hand and power tools, electric meters, light welding, and material handling equipment in performing duties

  • Detect faulty operations, and defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision

  • Communicates directly with peers in warehouse operations to coordinate maintenance and repair work in process areas

  • Implements programs and procedures required to ensure DC safety and cleanliness

  • Assists with planning and implementing any DC improvements and expansions

  • Maintains and updates operating and training manuals for the maintenance department

  • Ensures that all maintenance technicians are trained on the most updated version of the operating procedures

  • Reviews the operation of DC equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and identify opportunities for improvement

  • Maintains and repairs maintenance shop equipment

  • Supervises maintenance staff.  Ensures that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner

  • Initiates and carries out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs

  • Maintains safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures and is trained in OSHA Compliance

  • Ensures city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to the maintenance department are met at all times

  • Directs, maintains, and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department; reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance technicians

  • Initiates implements, and manages the plant maintenance program based on best practices in the distribution center industry, with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance

  • Monitors the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiates reordering when necessary

  • Establishes and maintains a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment

  • Exercise sound judgment to recommend and source outside vendors and service providers should any element of a project require highly specialized expertise or experience outside the skill set of maintenance department staff

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

   Required:

  • Managed preventative maintenance programs

  • Experience in troubleshooting PLC’s. or similar equipment

  • Knowledge of general warehouse practices

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to work with hands in mechanically oriented situations

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, as well as interpret pencil sketches and diagrams

  • Knowledge of various types of equipment in maintenance trades  

                                                   

Experience Requirements:

Generally requires a minimum of five (5) years of maintenance mechanic or related experience with a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years supervisory experience.

 

Education Requirements:

High School Diploma and equivalent experience required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred  

 

Equipment Knowledge: 

  • Mechanical and systemic function of automated material handling systems

  • Hand tools

 

Judgment/Reasoning AbilityAble to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems quickly using sound judgment, poise and diplomacy.  Ability to use judgment and reasoning skills, and determine when to escalate issues, as required, in a timely manner. 

 

Physical Demands (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)   While performing the essential functions of this job, the team member is required to constantly function in a cold environment. The team member is frequently required to lift up to 80 lbs.; stand; handle objects; sit; use close vision; and use distance vision. The team member is occasionally required to bend, twist, kneel, climb and hear.

 

Work EnvironmentThe noise in the work environment is usually moderate.  Other factors are:

 

  • Hectic, fast-paced with multi-level distractions

  • Professional, yet casual work environment

  • Warehouse / Office environment

The anticipated pay scale for this position can be found below, however the pay range applicable to you may vary by geographic location based on where the job is located or where you work.  The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, education, etc.  iHerb, LLC is a multi-state employer and this pay scale may not reflect positions that work in other states or locations.
