Role Overview:
The Customs Operation Manager will oversee the customs clearance process, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations while facilitating smooth, efficient operations. This role is essential for JD Logistics to maintain seamless cross-border supply chain activities, minimize delays, and mitigate any risks related to customs regulations. The manager will work closely with both internal teams and external authorities to ensure that all shipments meet regulatory requirements while achieving operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:

Customs Operations Management:
Lead the management of customs operations across the Americas region. Ensure compliance with local, regional, and international trade regulations, including customs clearance, tariff classifications, and duty management. -
Regulatory Compliance:
Stay updated on customs laws, trade agreements, and regulations. Ensure that all import/export shipments are fully compliant with government requirements and mitigate any potential risks or delays. -
Process Optimization:
Continuously analyze and improve customs clearance processes to ensure efficiency and minimize operational costs. Implement best practices and identify opportunities to streamline operations without compromising compliance. -
Team Leadership and Development:
Manage and develop a team of customs professionals. Provide training, guidance, and support to ensure high levels of performance, accuracy, and adherence to regulations. Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. -
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with the operations, procurement, logistics, and legal teams to ensure that customs requirements are integrated seamlessly into the broader supply chain. Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure timely shipments. -
Vendor & Authority Relations:
Build and maintain relationships with customs brokers, government agencies, and other external partners to ensure smooth operations. Negotiate with vendors and customs authorities to resolve issues and reduce any potential customs-related delays or penalties. -
Reporting and Documentation:
Ensure proper documentation of all customs activities, including audits, inspections, and clearance records. Provide regular reports to senior management regarding customs-related activities, compliance status, and potential risks.
Key Qualifications:

Experience:
5+ years of experience in customs operations, international trade, or a related field, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role. Experience in the logistics, supply chain, or e-commerce sectors is preferred. -
Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of international trade regulations, customs laws, and tariff codes.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to handle complex customs issues.
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with customs authorities, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Expertise in customs software and management tools (e.g., SAP, customs brokerage systems).
- Understanding of global trade agreements (e.g., NAFTA, WTO, etc.) and their application in logistics operations.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Customs certifications (e.g., CCS, CHB) are highly preferred.
