Who are we looking for?
As a Propulsion Engineer, you will lead propulsion integration, operation, testing, and flight test performance analysis for group 3, 4, and 5 fixed wing UAVs and other application platform configurations. This position will encompass all design cycles including concept design, prototyping, detailed analysis, modeling, drafting, manufacturing, testing, and flight. You will apply strong propulsion engineering fundamentals to solve challenging problems and develop innovative, production-ready solutions. The Propulsion Engineer is expected to collaborate between teams to define scope, develop schedules, and manage resources to ensure UAS propulsion operational needs. To be successful in this role, strong presentation and communication skills are a must.
What you get to do!
- Provide propulsion engineering expertise, guidance, and mentorship to team members
- Use our in-house machine shop to facilitate quick turnaround, develop and conduct test procedures, and inform your engineering process
- Validate your designs through the entire lifecycle from concept to successful flight demonstrations to production
- Coordinate with key propulsion vendors and suppliers through hardware delivery
- Communicate across engineering disciplines to make program critical decisions and support multiple teams
- Identify core issues, develop solutions, and effectively communicate the impacts across internal and external teams
What you will bring to the Team
Must have:
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- B.S. in mechanical or aerospace engineering (or comparable education/work experience)
- Significant experience in propulsion integration projects including new UAVs, aircraft, aircraft modifications, and aircraft systems
- 5+ years of hands-on experience integrating operational propulsion systems from conceptual design, helping to install and operate the engine, through early flight test and production
- 5+ years of experience in propulsion system mechanical design, materials, and thermodynamics
- 5+ years of experience with ASTM, MIL, or FAA standards related to propulsion system integration and operation
- 5+ years of experience in CAD software packages such as Catia, SolidWorks, Creo, etc. with the practical application of GD&T
- 5+ years of experience in aerospace and defense
Other Qualifications:
- Moderate travel
- Significant hands on propulsion system integration experience
- Significant propulsion testing experience including flight test engine performance analysis
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Team building and collaboration skills are essential; work across all subject areas to solve complex engineering problems
Salary Range
$130,000 - $200,000 depending on experience
