Data Engineer III, Mission Control



Overview: 

 

Shift4 (NYSE: FOUR) is pushing the boundaries of Financial Technology through the creation of a new internal system, Mission Control. Like the name suggests, this system will be akin to the control rooms of the Space Shuttle and Apollo programs, where holistic company wide information is flowed from external systems across the business to a single, unified location. Subject matter experts will be able to analyze and action on data directly, allowing for fast response and creation of automation that can then identify and prevent similar issues in the future.

 

As Data Engineer, Mission Control, you will architect, build, and deploy applications and data systems for the Mission Control Center. This role will collaborate with Mission Control leaders and operations engineers to build data pipelines from internal Shift4 systems, engineer applications and use cases for unique Mission Control operations, and develop action oriented workflows by which operators can execute end to end actions within the platform. You have deep experience in data engineering, data pipelining, and connecting disparate systems through webhooks or writebacks. You will join a group of highly motivated digital transformation professionals seeking to adhere to one of Shift4’s core values - “Take out the parts”, and simplify corporate operations.

 

This role is based at Shift4 headquarters in Center Valley, PA -  Relocation assistance may be available. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Utilize Palantir Foundry software to engineer data pipelines, perform ETLs, and transform data into high quality user applications for monitoring and engaging all aspects of the Shift4 business.

Collaborate with users, perform testing cycles, and push new products and features to the Mission Control platform suite.

Utilize data tools such as SQL and Pyspark to craft data pipelines and then use object oriented strategies to build front end user interfaces to interact with data objects.

Build APIs and configure writebacks and webhooks to synchronize front end user interfaces with back end data objects. Connect disparate source systems and collaborate with stakeholders and Mission Control engineering team to ensure functionality. Create source sync schedules, optimize data system performance, and analyze new technologies to integration.

Write data automations using rules, alerts, or other common data engineering tools to build automated workflows that simplify the user experience.

Write and design user acceptance tests for Mission Control systems and utilize AIP technology to create use cases for AI tools.

Create consumable technical documentation for users to understand complex technical details.

Draft one pagers and presentation for Shift4 Executive leadership review when necessary.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 5+ years of in Data Engineering Development
  • Do you have 3+ years of experience using data tools such as Python, Apache, AWS, or others?
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Engineering, Analytics, Computer Science, etc) or experience in lieu of a degree. 
  • Previous experience with network configurations and message brokering systems such as Apache Kafka.
  • Experience architecting and building front ends with quality UX that adhere to fundamental back end workflows
  • Experience with ERP systems, real time and near real time data, and monitoring software such as Splunk, Datadog, or Grafana.
  • Past work utilizing a variety of data systems such as MySQL, Postgres, SSMS, and Java based applications.

 

 

Desired Qualifications (Skills that are a plus to have):

 

  • Masters degree in a relevant technical field
  • Personal experience building and leading a team utilizing operational software systems, including Epsilon3, First Resonance ION, or other data heavy systems.
  • Experience with real time, time series data and creation of workflows around data indicators.
  • Experience with operational fundamentals such as corrective action reporting, non-conformances, inventory management, and data governance.
  • Object Oriented programming language experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with one of the following platforms: Palantir Foundry, Mulesoft
