
Lead Lighting Engineer
ABOUT Slate
Slate is a new US company that is exploring development in the electric vehicle space.
Who we are looking for:
Slate is looking for an energetic, organized, and experienced Lead Lighting Engineer to join our growing team. The DRE will be responsible for design and development of exterior lighting components and related systems across the organization, ensuring compliance with regulations and optimizing performance for safety and aesthetics.
What you get to do:
- Be an integral part of an energetic team that’s challenging the status quo of vehicle design.
- Conceptualize, design, and develop exterior lighting systems, including headlights, taillights, turn signals, and other lighting features. This includes interior lighting support as needed.
- Utilize CAD software (CATIA) to create and manage detailed designs and 3D models, and coordinate releases in PLM system (Windchill).
- Develop and implement functional objectives to meet project performance targets.
- Conduct optical simulation reviews and analysis with lighting suppliers to optimize lighting performance to ensure compliance with regulations and Styling objectives.
- Manage all aspects of exterior component development to meet project requirements including performance, cost, mass, timing, manufacturability, etc.
- Support night drives and reviews of exterior lighting systems.
- Provide onsite support for lamp build and assembly processes to assure safe launch and overall vehicle quality.
- Review and approve lamp validations and regulatory compliance certifications.
- Lead collaboration between internal/external teams and suppliers to meet all project requirements.
- Other tasks and projects assigned to support the overall Exterior Engineering team.
What you bring to the team:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or electrical engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- 10+ years of vehicle design experience in the areas of exterior lighting and trim.
- Knowledge of design for plastic components, electronics, and optic systems.
- Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA V5) and PLM systems (Windchill).
- Desire to learn and use simulation software (SPEOS) to support lighting development and assist other engineers as needed.
- Understanding of exterior lighting sub-systems as part of the overall vehicle electrical system architecture.
- Excellent communication and team building skills.
- Broad knowledge of NHSTA/FMVSS/IIHS requirements related to exterior lighting.
