Data Engineer
About Slate
At Slate, we’ve got one job: building a vehicle you’ll fall in love with, right here in the USA. We believe that car buyers—not car companies—should call the shots. We like looking at the road, not the screen. We don’t like paying for stuff we don’t need. We like picking out the stuff we do need. We think dings are badges, not blemishes. But we know not everyone likes what we like. So, we built you a Slate: you make it yours.
Who we are looking for:
Slate is looking for an experienced Data Engineer to help our company be successful in the electric vehicle space. You must be able to thrive and succeed in a fast-paced startup environment and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the company’s success.
What you get to do:
- Design, build and maintain scalable, high‑performance data pipelines (ETL/ELT), batch and real‑time, using cloud platforms
- Architect data models and manage structured, semi‑structured and unstructured datasets to support analytics, business intelligence, machine learning, and operational needs
- Collaborate with analysts, engineers and business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate into robust data solutions
- Implement, test and document efficient data transformations, ingestion routines and storage strategies with strong code quality standards
- Monitor and troubleshoot data quality, lineage, system health and performance
- Evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies and best practices to improve infrastructure, cost, scalability and governance
What you bring to the team:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- 3+ years experience building data pipelines, modeling, warehousing and ETL/ELT processes
- Experience with large, complex datasets
- Experience with one or more scripting/programming languages (Python, Java, Scala, Bash, etc.)
- Experience with cloud data technologies (e.g. AWS, Spark, Redshift, S3, Glue)
- Familiarity with data governance, metadata management, lineage tracking and security/compliance in data systems
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to present technical solutions to non-technical audiences
