Job Title: Strategic Insights Data Scientist– Strategic Insights Team, PlayStation Studios (PSS) Finance

 

Location: Remote

The Strategic Insights Data Scientist will be a crucial pillar of Studio Business Group (SBG) Finance’s data-driven business support capabilities.  Using their technical expertise and advanced knowledge of statistical concepts, they will work with stakeholders to ensure delivery of PlayStation Studios’ strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and a passion for the gaming industry, alongside technical skills gained at a bachelor's level or higher.  The Strategic Insights Data Scientist will report to the Strategic Insights Manager/Lead, housed within the PlayStation Studios Finance.  Given the fast-changing nature of the industry and its technologies, the right candidate should expect new responsibilities to emerge over and above those listed below.  Location is flexible, with the option to work remotely, provided work can also be carried out on-site at PlayStation Studios offices when required on key projects, in-person work meetings etc.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with SBG functions such as strategy and portfolio, forecasting, product management, finance and commercial optimisation as well as studio producers and analysts using PlayStation’s wide array of data to provide insights and support key business decisions.
  • Become fluent with SBG Finance and wider SIE metadata, undertaking master data management to ensure consistent and accurate outputs.
  • Identify opportunities to build standardized analysis frameworks, allowing studios and functional stakeholders to receive easily replicated and adjustable reports.
  • Use programming languages such as Python to perform statistical analyses and create predictive models, generating actionable insights for business partners.
  • Locate and organize new data sources, helping to provide SGB titles with a competitive edge.
  • Become a subject matter expert on available data sources, both in terms of their definitions and appropriate usage
  • Oversee and automate standardised KPI reporting functions
  • Represent the team as appropriate in cross-functional meetings
  • Continued development of technical / analytical skills

 

Essential Qualifications & Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent technical / practical experience.
  • Strong understanding of SQL and experience working with large datasets.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python or R for data cleaning, analysis, visualizations, and modeling.
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts and strong problem-solving skills
  • Extensive videogame knowledge, able to demonstrate a fluent understanding of genres, gameplay, monetisation methods, and industry trends
  • Self-starter, showing initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision, as well as within a team
  • Strong collaboration skills and can effectively communicate quantitative concepts and results
  • Ability to translate data into analysis, and analysis into insights
  • Knowledge of best practice with regards to data integrity, consistency, and cleanliness
  • Strong work ethic and adherence to maintaining strict confidentiality
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and implement practical solutions
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, in high profile and time-pressured environments

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Exposure to or understanding of basic financial concepts such as P&L
  • Familiarity with visualisation tools e.g. Tableau, Looker
  • Familiarity with BI tools e.g. Cognos, MicroStrategy, PowerBI

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$116,400 - $174,600 USD
